Calle Dão is designed to pay homage to Havana's once-thriving El Barrio Chino (Chinatown). Known as the largest such community in Latin America, El Barrio Chino occupied 44 square blocks of real estate in the late 1870s. As the Cuban and Chinese cultures mixed, a unique fusion of cuisine emerged. Today, El Barrio Chino occupies a small section of the narrow Calle Cuchillo - Knife Street - from which Calle Dão takes its name. The cuisine, cocktails, and décor of Calle Dão strive to transport our guests back to El Barrio Chino when it was at the height of its existence. Calle Dão has created mouthwatering dishes seamlessly blending Cuban staples with Asian flavors. The cocktails, created by Mixologist Joy Daniel, also meld the old world with the new using historical names for libations with modern ingredients. 1857 is a bold sip of orange-infused vodka, amaretto, fresh lime juice, ground ginger, and sesame oil garnished with star anise. It commemorates the year the first ship carrying Chinese laborers arrived in Cuba. Calle Dáo's décor, the creation of its owner Marco Britti (Favela Cubana), is reminiscent of a sultry, old-world Havana restaurant with white-washed walls, distressed wood, and whirring ceiling fans. Chinese artwork, spices, and bright colors provide the accents. Step into a bygone era and enjoy a modern dining experience at Calle Dão.

Food was terrible. Pork overcooked. noodles with ropa veija for restaurant week terrible. We were 5 people for restaurant week lunch. Food was plentiful but tasteless. Drinks were good. Service was good but food terrible. Only one person ordered a sandwich and she liked it.

Delightful meal, novel cuisine for us, and excellent waitstaff. We shared a shrimp appetizer and a chicken rice dish which together was plenty for us. Would go here again.

This is a nice small place between Bryant Park and Times square. The menu has some light meal options for before or after show snacks. We had the brisket sandwich with a side of sauted cauliflower and cashews. Both were tasty and satisfying. Dining furniture could be more comfortable.

This is my second time here and I love it. Let me preface this by saying I am cuban myself and so that attracted me to the place but I enjoyed it so much last time we decided to bring our adult children to sample it this week and everyone LOVED it. Ropa vieja over chinese noodles? Amazing. The Pork belly was my favorite dish on the menu and the papas rellenas were great as was the cuban sandwich although they do the Tampa,Florida style with salami and I prefer the Miami style with ham and swiss. The service was great and the mojitos were really excellent. Some places make it so sweet but this was perfect.. just perfect and the happy hour drinks start at ll so it was a super deal. Can't wait to return because there were a couple of items we didn't get to order..
