Rengaya has been serving YAKINIKU in North Sydney since 1993, making it one of Australia’s pioneering Japanese barbeque restaurants. Now, that tradition is set to continue at its new digs on Miller Street – just a short stroll from the original location – in a much more modern, striking setting. The new fit-out features bar-counter seats around an open kitchen, red booth seating divided by Japanese-style timber panelling and a hard-to-miss chandelier. Cosy little place and at the same time busy. Love the food. Everything was delicious. We had the pork belly, chicken thigh, chicken liver, miso cod, king mushroom, and most especially the Wagyu short rib. I will highly recommend to friends. Don’t forget to order the burdock chips.

We had an excellent lunch today. The octopus was presented with a delightful charred flavour, adding a smoky depth that was simply irresistible. The snapper was sweet and juicy, perfectly cooked, and seasoned to perfection, standing in stark contrast to the often tasteless and dry fish found elsewhere. The strawberry Eton mess was beautifully presented and perfectly balanced, ending the meal on a high note. Overall, this restaurant truly deserves its high reputation.
