In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. This is the best restaurant in Long Island and quite possibly the best diner we have ever been to. The staff are impeccably trained, gracious, helpful, and just lovely people. The food is amazing! Everything from their salads, to their sliders or chicken and waffles, everything on the menu is delicious. We come here often and love it! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!

The ambiance and service were top notch, and it’s nice to have an urban vibe here in my neighborhood. My only complaint is that the tables are a bit close together which made it very loud. This was prime time at 7pm on a Saturday night, so perhaps I’ll try it during the week. The scallops and Branzino (fish) were both delicious, and they make a good cocktail. I’ll definitely be going back.

We went for my boyfriend‘s birthday. The drinks and the food were both absolutely delicious. Their pasta has an option to come in a chicken cutlet bowl, which I highly recommend. You also must get the table side, made mozzarella! They also have holiday drinks and desserts for the month of December, which was super cute. When it’s time to bring out the dessert for a birthday person they play music and bring out a bright candle, which was awesome. They also have a Instagramable backdrop by the front door, which is great! Great experience would definitely go again!
