Café Degas fue llamado así en honor a un impresionista francés del siglo XIX, Hilaire Germain Edgar Degas, que visitó Nueva Orleans en 1872 y vivió durante un corto tiempo en 2306 Esplanade Avenue, la calle donde está ubicado el restaurante.
