In 1979, after over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Joe Impastato opened Impastato’s in Metaire. Only 5 years before, his brother Sal opened Sal and Judy’s in Lacombe. Now the family of restaurants extends to Madisonville with the opening of Impastato Cellars on September 5, 2013. The Impastato family decided to bring the same traditional, authentic Italian cuisine to the table on the Northshore along with the old world ambiance of a 600 square foot wine cellar featuring over 400 labels, in addition to a wide variety of spirits and craft beers.

I asked for a corner table but she wouldn’t give us one . We were in the path to the bathroom.

I'll start with what was good. Calamari was nicely fried ..crispy yet tender. I wish it had been served with marinara sauce...I mean this is an Italian restaurant. The cocktail sauce didn't really match. Drinks were cold and delicious. Osso buco was good..maybe needed a bit of salt. What was supposed to be hot..was hot/cold was cold. Now the not so good...Our reservation was at 7:30pm. Restaurant was pretty empty with only one other table occupied. We ordered and our apps were brought out... followed almost immediately by our salads...then almost immediately by our entrees. At 8pm..our entrees were already being served... We still had not gotten thru our appetizers! When the salads came out..we let it go. But we weren't even half way thru our salads when they were bringing out the entrees...a half hour after we arrived! I had to ask them to take them back into the kitchen and keep them warm. We felt rushed and as if the staff just wanted to it get over with and get us out. Restaurant is dated...the desserts in a display case at the entrance make it look like a buffet. Unfortunately, the food wasn't good enough to overlook the rushed service and dated ambiance...we will not be back.

It’s been years since we’ve visited, however very happy we landed on Impastato’s. The food and service were excellent. We opted for the 5 Course Deal which was a great value and portion sizes were more than adequate. We both took food home. We sat on the air-conditioned back patio where the noise level was very low and the ambiance was delightful. Great experience, we will visit again soon!

We hadn’t been to this restaurant in a long time because it’s a little out of the way for us. We were given a gift card so we made reservations. Our previous visits had all been very good. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined considerably, and the restaurant has the ambiance of a funeral home. There’s also a certain smell in the air. We had the shrimp capri appetizer and it was ok. The shrimp were small and the sauce they were covered in tasted like potato salad. We also ordered shrimp fettuccini, which was salty and the noodles were smothered in sauce to the point that they were not enjoyable and it also didn’t taste fresh. We also had the red fish Payton. The menu says gulf fish, but it was definitely not fresh. It was covered with crab meant abs shrimp and smothered in a sauce that had the consistency of lobster sauce that you would get at a Chinese restaurant. Overall, it was quite a disappointing experience.

Once again a 5 star experience. Shrimp Capri, Fettuccine Alfredo, Veal Ossobuco, and Blueberry Banana pie. We ate like royalty!

The hostess did not WRITE down my reservations even though I made them a week ahead on the app. We were sat next to the singer and could not hold a conversation as a result. Table next to us was overly loud to add on to the uncomfortable feelings. Food was plentiful and delicious on the Taste of Tammany menu
