A Salt Lake City icon, Kyoto has delighted literally generations of diners. This cozy restaurant gives the feel of a bit of Kyoto Japan in the Rocky Mountains. Kyoto specializes in authentic Japanese cuisine. House favorites include the Ebi Tempura and Steak Teriyaki. Kyoto is also known for its Sushi Bar. Patrons may either dine at the Sushi Bar or order sushi from a Japanese style booth.

Kyoto Japanese Restaurant was opened by Sam & Yoshiko Tada in 1984. Sam (a native of Kyoto Japan) brought his culinary skills & Yoshiko managed the accounting and service. Both Sam & Yoshiko still participate in the day to day operations of Kyoto.

    The sukiyaki we had was incredible 8.5/10 delicious. The vegetable tempura 3/10. The batter was thick like a corndog. no crisp, no crunch, thick, looked white, not golden brown. I have been to the Kyoto dozens of times for the last 20 years. I will only go back for the sukiyaki...

    Food here is always amazing! Very quick on appetizers and main rolls. Only issue we had was our server was rushing us a lot. When we sat she immediately ran up and asked us want appetizers and rolls we wanted. I haven’t even had a chance to put my purse down let alone look at the menu. When we told her we needed a couple minutes she walked away but came back literally 30 seconds later to ask us again what we wanted to order. We ended up just ordering a quick appetizer so she would leave us alone. Then after a couple minutes we ordered our rolls. Halfway through eating our rolls she came and put the check on the table without asking if we wanted anything else. We were going to get dessert but at that point we just wanted to get out of there.

    We’ve been dining at The Kyoto for over 40 years. The consistency is amazing, we’ve never been let down. Kudos!

    This is, by far, one of the best Japanese restaurants in the SLC area. The sashimi and sushi items are superbly fresh and expertly prepared. It is so fortunate to have a Japanese-trained sushi chef. Her expertise shows! The staff is friendly and courteous and all the dishes we have tried thus far have been excellent. This is, in my opinion, one the great “old school” style of Japanese restaurants that are harder and harder to find and is a blessing to have in our area. You will not be disappointed by Kyoto.
