Our newest restaurant, Afghania is the sister restaurant to Bistro Aracosia in the Palisades neighborhood of DC, Aracosia in McLean Va and Afghan Bistro in Springfield VA. Afghania accommodates any diet and is proud of taking cooking back to its origins.

Welcome to Afghania, where the Steppe of Central Asia meets the Hindu Kush and Suleiman Mountain Range, bordering South Asia. Come and enjoy the warm hospitality, exquisite flavors, and the mystery of the Afghan frontier that so many have been intrigued by.
At Afghania you will enjoy some classical dishes of the warriors from the frontier. Smoked meats, vegetables full of flavor, exotic spices, exquisite flavors and aromas and unmatched hospitality are promised at Afghania.

A nice wide variety of dishes, especially a good number vegetarian options. The dishes we had were flavorful and zesty. Similar in many ways to Indian food, but spicing is different. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes and was able to describe differences between dishes that looked similar on the menu. Then she graciously comped us a dessert when we said we were full. 😊

Wow! What a great experience we had at Afghania. We ordered the sampler menu which is, of course, a little bit of everything. They actually stacked a sort of shelf on our table to accommodate all the food! FYI the menu states that the sampler is for a minimum of 2 people, but despite our gigantic appetites, my son and I weren't able to finish all the food. I wish we could have taken the leftovers home, but we were staying at a hotel so that wasn't possible. Anyway, the food was great (and remember, we tasted everything), the service was outstanding -- the guys made sure we were happy with everything, and it was nice to know that our food was based on their mom's recipes. What's better than that? By the way, they do serve alcohol. I wish I lived in DC so I could take advantage of Afghania all the time. Don't miss!

This was my first time eating Afghani food. And it was amazing! I love the spices. The meal started with bread and four different chutneys, I loved them all but the mango was my favorite. The pumpkin dumplings were both savory and sweet. I had the pulao with lamb shank and it was perfect. The meat fell off the bone and the saffron basmati rice had a very unique spicy taste with raisins and pistachios. It might be my new favorite dish! The service was excellent. He explained everything on the menu and was exceptionally nice. I’m looking forward to going back.

We have been fans of Bistro Aracosia for years, so we anxious to try the newest from this family. It did not disappoint. Food was superb. Especially happy that they have added spicier fare with entrees from the “frontier.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience dining at Afghania. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. We ordered the dumpling assortment, “fall off the bone” lamb shank, Afghania Palou, “melt in your mouth” smoked lamb chops and the Kandahar vegetarian flight. Everything tasted amazing! Great addition to the neighborhood!

Excellent, flavorful food and cocktails. Attentive and pleasant service without being intrusive. Attention to detail was impressive (remembering who was vegetarian and who was an omnivore) and arranging food in a sensible manner to accommodate).
