Melbourne Food & Wine Festival 2025 Drawing on his years working at Michelin-starred Balzi Rossi in Ventimiglia, Alta Trattoria’s chef McKay Wilday will take you on a journey to the Ligurian coast. The combination of exquisite seafood and the bountiful array of produce is what draws Wilday to Liguria, and why he believes Melbourne is the ideal setting to showcase the Italian region’s simple and honest approach to cooking. Using Victoria’s finest produce, this four-course feast will showcase classic Ligurian dishes such as trofie al pesto, pansotti al preboggion, cappon magro and coniglio alla Ligure. Alongside the feast, there will be a selection of Ligurian wines curated by the Alta Trattoria team.

Service was fantastic. It was good without the wow factor to get me to go back again. Our mains were not as good as the entree’s. Maybe it was what we selected. Pricing was typical and serving portions were perfect.

Lovely dining experience at Alta - set menu with multiple pasta courses. My literal dream. Service was great, drinks were excellent 🍸

Good service at Alta, but unfortunately, the food didn’t impress. Each dish in the pasta degustation was quite similar, and they were all overwhelmingly salty. At $85 per person, it didn’t feel worth it. I won’t be returning.

What a great white tablecloth trattoria, and well priced for Brunswick. Their pasta tasting menu was a great and filling introduction to their menu. Good wine list, also BYO on lunchtimes.

Alta Trattoria is a neighbourhood treasure. The food is unique to the Piedmont region of north-west Italy. Despite being a frequent and enthusiastic Italian food eater, I encounter many dishes and pasta combinations that I have never before encountered. On previous occasions I have dined with a group and that allows various snacks and mains to be ordered and shared. Not so easy with dinner for two for my latest visit. But I needn't have worried! The La Sinfonia, "a symphony of pasta" set menu was offered allowing for snacks and 4 different pastas in small serves, including 2 that weren't available a la carte. Everything was delicious, but it's the service that takes Alta to the next level. Low key, professional and friendly the staff were absolutely terrific. Not cheap but great value and the decor, which includes some lovely art works lends itself to a low key mid-week dinner or a special occasion. Love, love love Alta and would highly recommend it.

Excellent food, wine and service. Beautiful decor but music a little too loud for older folk like us. Not cheap but such good quality worth it for a special occasion.
