Inspired by the parrillas of his native Argentina and the hip enclaves of contemporary Buenos Aires, Chef Javier Bardauil brings the art of live-fire cooking to Detroit at BARDA — a modern steakhouse where ancestral traditions meet out-of-this-world innovation. The BARDA kitchen relies solely on a wood-burning grill and oven, ensuring that every dish is either flame-cooked, fire-kissed, or served raw, showcasing premium cuts of meat and high-quality seafood and vegetables prepared to highlight their natural flavors. The thoughtfully curated South American wine list and playful cocktail menu provide artful balance to the fire-infused cuisine. Barda is the best restaurant in Detroit. Amazing food, personable and professional service, and a vibe like no other. Honestly, this place is one of a kind in the country. So so good and highly recommended.

Wow, my experience dining at BARDA was nothing short of incredible. The food was nothing short of fantastic (no surprises there) but what really blew me away was the service my group experienced. There was never a water cup unfilled, always a staff member waiting to address your every need, and an inviting vibe that was sure to make anyone feel comfortable and welcome. Big thank you’s to chef Javier and the BARDA staff for an unforgettable dining experience.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in years and right in my hometown. I didn’t have any expectations going in and I was absolutely blown away. Everything from the layout and design to the food was absolutely incredible. Just a great vibe too. I can’t wait to go back!

Had a remarkably great experience here. Remarks: what a vibe! Sitting in Barda, you’re surrounded in a cozy blue tile, glowing red neon light, easy to enjoy tunes, happy-to-meet-you staff, and my god, consistently the best damn food I can find in a town known for its strength in the kitchen! Barda has created a place that feels exactly like what you think “cool Detroit restaurant” should feel like AND while the food is just that cool too. Because the pretty places that put together “meh” food and drinks are hard to want to return to visit. Really enjoyed myself this last trip—enough to inspire me to actually write a review. Mouth watering green apple and scallop ceviche, steak tartar with marrow and sourdough toast, cauliflower with bagna cauda, and naturally, chorizo and chimichurri all joined me for dinner. I was feeling snacks, but I’d recommend the more serious entrees too: Bife strip steak, short rib, trout, pork tomahawk…It’s a dream spot for those who like big grilled meats, or the more delicate dishes like ceviche, or the charred beet flower who’s reputation often precedes itself. Every visit is just always so great, top to bottom. The staff is clearly a total team. Nothing ever feels overbearing, just all cohesion and kindness. Honestly, that’s hard to find these days and in surprisingly upscale places—simply someone who is happy to be helping you out. You feel valued. And you feel like they take providing you value, simply because you picked them for dinner, refreshingly seriously. There is some great energy flowing through there. And the food is always, if I may say, flames.
