This beautiful, historic room - located on the first floor of our York tea room - is steeped in history and provides the perfect setting for our most exquisite afternoon tea. You'll be serenaded by our pianist as you enjoy a selection of savouries, indulgent sandwiches, specially selected teas and irresistible dainty cakes and scones.     Excellent, as usual! Service was outstanding, food was delicious, tea was delightful. Betty’s never disappoints.

    VERY poor service. When we first got there they were very nice and polite and we got sat down straight away and our server said she would bring over the children’s menu (this was never brought over all the time we were there). We waiting 30 minutes for someone to take our order (during this time 4 tables who had sat down after us had their order taken and two of those tables had their drinks brought to their table) we were then just told what the kids menu was. When we gave our order we told them that neither my wife or I eat salmon so please could they leave this off the afternoon tea, we were offered an alternative of red petter tart so we said yes. 55 minutes after sitting down our drinks came and then 1 hour 10 minutes after sitting down our food came (they forgot to not bring the salmon and so we had to ask them to take this away). All of tables around us half way through the service was offered additional sandwiches and drinks, we did not want any more sandwich’s but would have been nice to have been offered. When we had finished I went to pay the server and she asked how it was and I said the services was very poor and all she could say was sorry we have been very busy. I appreciate it is peak season for the festive afternoon tea however it is a ‘set menu’ and all the tables had to be booked so you know what to expect when it comes to the number of customers and what time they will be coming. My wife spoke to the manager in the restaurant and she was equally unapologetic about the service and just said we have been busy. I would expect this reaction and service if this was a fast food restaurant or lower grade establishment but this is Betty’s! You go for the high quality food and amazing service, my wife and I go to their Harrogate restaurant regularly and have amazing service but we will not be coming back after this.

    A fabulous experience, the atmosphere was perfect. The tea was very nice and food very tasty. Service was good with the waitress allocated to us very polite and informative. What stopped this experience being a 5/5 was a little wait to be seated (perhaps due to the bad weather) and wait for food / drink to reach us (perhaps short staffed) The pianist was also amazing !

    We enjoyed the surroundings, the waitress was very attentive and helpful. We found the sandwiches lacking in flavour and stodgy, the scones and cakes were enjoyable.

    Outstanding service, this was a top class afternoon tea. It doesn’t get any better than Betty’s. They set the gold standard for service & quality.

    Such a shame had herd how lovely it was and looked forward to going for months, but the food was not what I expected. The smoked salmon was not salmon it was makrel (colour and taste) and the rest of the food was disappointing, the waiter was lovely and apologised for are disappointment, and he applied a discount to are bill. "From all i have herd about Betty's "I'm putting it down to the chef having a of day and sadly we went on that day. Also to the cleaners "the mirrors were so smeary the same as the tea pots they were horrible and not shined at all, we also were waiting on someone to take are token so we could get are coats. Gave up waiting and got them are self. So we could have easily taken someone else's, so anyone with an expensive coat don't let them take it
