Candela Cucina is an upscale Italian restaurant from Servedwell Hospitality in the historic Candleworks building. Candela Cucina is not just another Italian American restaurant, Candela is an authentic Italian restaurant. Candela’s menu ranges from classic Italian dishes to innovative contemporary creations, all crafted with the finest ingredients.

This new concept from Servedwell Hospitality is in partnership with Peter Biondi. Pete has opened other Servedwell concepts and has worked at several NYC Michelin-starred restaurants. The menu is crafted and overseen by Chef Josh Riazi. Josh has been overseeing all Servedwell’s culinary development and operations since 2018. Josh has worked in several highly acclaimed restaurants; most notably, Josh was Executive Chef at Al Forno in Providence, RI. Josh is assisted by Chef Joe Melo, a Servedwell alum, who will oversee daily culinary operations at Candela.

If you’re looking for an exceptional restaurant please go further than this gem of restaurant in New Bedford; save a ride to Ferderal Hill in Providence (though you’ll find great food there), and spare yourself from a day trip to the wonderful North End of Boston (even though it’s a great place to visit and eat), and then nestle yourself into thi five star experience. The owners are making a terrific investment in historic New Bedford. They have a management and staff, from the front door, and through a kitchen that’s brimming with competence and care. Three of us dined there Saturday evening (my third visit in a month) and three for three it was superb cooking and first class service. From a traditional Parmigiana, to some of the best swordfish, as well as from the delicious Pasta Fagioli to perfectly cooked Calamari, and then some homemade icream (Pistachio), you’ll leave feeling like you visited Trastevere in Rome. Server was exceptional. We picked off the happy hour menu. So many choices and value can't be beat. Everything was cooked to perfection. What can I say I just love this place. I have been four times with four different groups of friends since Spring.

Due to an earlier engagement ending early we arrived very early at Candela Cucina for our reservation. The hostess was very gracious and accommodating, seating us very quickly. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The drinks were good and so was the food. Portions were more than adequate. The decor was very nice and comfortable. Prices were not exorbitant.

Well to start off as I have stated in a past review please don’t pour me a glass of Warm Water when we are seated. But lo and behold a tall glass of Warm water once again. We ordered the calamari appetizer at it was very good. My wife ordered the swordfish puttanesca and loved it. I order Ciao a Pepe and it basically tasted like Alfredo. Hardly any pepper and swimming in sauce. The service was very good by the staff. My wife said she would order the swordfish again but I would not order Ciao a Pepe again.
