A nice prelude to ringing in the new year! Dinner was excellent and it is nice having a local steakhouse/seafood option so close to home. It was perfect for a night where we wanted to minimize our time on the road in and out of Center City. .

We chose DePaul's again because we'd had a fine time there previously and preferred to celebrate New Year's locally and conveniently rather than to venture downtown. It's a handsome place, run smoothly - reserved table was exactly as we wished, there was the addition of a coat check person for NYE. and our waiter was skillful and personable. Oysters were so good I ordered a second. Caesar salad equalled anything we've had elsewhere. My wife enjoyed her filet mignon and I was pleased with my lamb chops. We both were amazed at how flavorful the onion rings were. Nobody's perfect - our espressos were a little weak.

It was New Year's Eve. Not many places will be perfect. However, there were a few disappointments during dinner. I was told I could not have the table I requested, that I would have to sit along the row of tables with banquette seating. Not happy, but at least we were the last table in the row and had extra room next to us. I originally wanted to sit upstairs at the rail. Requested it early when I made my reservation. Next, and only really concerning disappointment, was the main course. The appetizers were wonderful, as usual. We both chose the special - Halibut, with Chanterelle mushrooms, over pureed leek and potatoes. Sounds awesome. For $60.00 for a small piece of fish it should have been. But there were no mushrooms, and the potato leek puree was barely there, thin and almost flavorless. On the side, instead of those lovely sounding Chanterelle mushrooms, were two small florets of cauliflower, and two small florets of broccoli. Did they taste good, doesn't matter, they were not Chanterelle mushrooms and totally not worth the $60.00 they charged per plate. The drinks were exemplary. The dessert was lovely, banana bread pudding with Creme Anglaise, which were both very good - with a side of vanilla ice cream. Delicious. The drinks, Cedar & Vanilla Smoked Old Fashioned, An Autumn Thyme Spritz, limoncello, gin, thyme & rosemary simple, lemon, prosecco. Wonderful flavors. I also had the White Cosmo, kiki vodka, white cranberry juice, elderflower, lemon, pomegranate juice, also delicious. Well crafted. I had a prosecco with my dessert. Standard. A lot to recommend it, but was truly disappointed in the dinner special... and the seating.
