Who ever said that to eat vegan and earth friendly food you need to renounce the delicacies of traditional Italian cuisine?
Our Chef Alessandra D'Angelo moved to Australia from Sicily in 2009 and she has been working incessantly on vegetarian and vegan recipes since then.

At Funghi e Tartufo, she have turned plant-based food into something so delicious that you won't desire anything else!

In a converted 19th century warehouse in the heart of Melbourne CBD, Funghi e Tartufo – meaning Mushrooms and Truffle in honour of their signature dish – will offer you a unique experience leaving you breathless.

The inspiration is traditional Italian and the vision is a modern and earth friendly way to marry deliciousness with plant based food.

This was unfortunately not my best experience at Funghi E Tartufo. I provide this feedback with the aim of helping the restaurant to improve, I wish them every success - but this special dinner left us both disappointed. Having been several years prior, I rated the spaghetti then as 'the best I've had in my life' and I spent many hours wondering over how such a creamy, cheese flavour was achieved and I savoured every mouthful. I convinced many people to come and try this exceptional vegan Italian food following my amazing meal several years ago. I ordered exactly the same meal this time. The spaghetti (carbonara) had no moisture upon arrival, there was a lack of sauce and an overpowering amount of facon pieces were used. It was as though it had sat under the heat lamps for too long and all moisture was absorbed into the pasta, or that the pasta was undercooked and soaked the life out of whatever sauce there may have originally been there. Previously, the sauce pooled on the plate and it remained pleasing the whole meal through. The second dish had an overwhelming amount of mushrooms in it - and I adore mushrooms, but this was a very difficult meal to get through. The pasta was not the correct texture - again feeling undercooked, as I am familiar with Italian food. I am unsure how the chef could be happy with these meals, and at this price point I expect it to hit home every time. Unfortunately, it really missed the mark. Were the prices 'pub food' level, then we would simply have shrugged and got on with it. But the fact that the prices are as they are - there are certain expectations for quality every time. The calamari had no seasoning at all and was disappointing, and I had no salt on the table to correct this. A missed opportunity to really make an exceptional entre. The Tiramisu, and the coctails, were perfect. The service was a little confusing and disappointing.

This is the best vegan restaurant in Melbourne. Every food were top quality. Highly recommend to who looking for vegan food.

Party of 6 - only 1 vegan amongst us - but we all loved our meal! The gnocchi , calamari and parpadelle were pirates faves. Great drinks menu too, good service and chilled atmosphere inside.

We had a party of three, seated outside. It was a surprisingly mild Autumn evening and there was no rain. There were heaters which were turned on as required. The service was good - attentive but not intrusive. We had some questions about various dishes and the staff were helpful with their advice. Food was great - tasty, well-presented, good portions. We shared some starters, pasta and desserts. Good selection of Italian wines too.

One of my favourite places to eat at on a special night out. Food was amazing as always and the cocktails didn't disappoint either. My personal favourite was the pappardelle with truffle and mushroom, and also love the calamari! Lovely place to go for a special occasion, and they're great at accomodating bigger groups, which we're so thankful for.

I'm not a vegetarian nor a vegan but this was a very enjoyable experience. The location is very cozy and the staff were helpful and welcoming. The calamari fritti was superb!! The only disappointing piece was my coconut marine cocktail. Will return with my meat eating friends for a nice change.
