Nominated for Best New Restaurant and Best Chef in the James Beard Awards, Gado Gado is an Indonesian-focused restaurant in Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood serving an eclectic menu that derives flavors from owners Thomas and Mariah Pisha-Duffly’s cultural heritage, travels, and culinary backgrounds.

In addition to an extensive à la carte food and drink menu, groups are invited to indulge in a bountiful family-style, chef’s choice Rice Table dinner — Gado Gado’s interpretation of the Dutch-Indonesian “Rijsttafel” feast.

Singaporean Chili Crab

Every Sunday and Monday come enjoy our special Singaporean Chili Crab dish. A jumbo Dungeness crab cooked in our sweet chili gravy is served over a bed of rice noodles with sweet rolls cooked in coconut herb butter. This dish is intended to serve 2-3 people and is $125 per dish. A $25 fee will incur for a no-show or a cancellation within 24 hours of your reservation. If you want more than one crab please utilize the add-on option to increase the amount.

Outstanding staff, food was great. The only big miss was the coconut pandan custard that accompanied the donut. The custard had a very bad aftertaste . Not sure if it was rancid or they use a coconut flavoring paste .

We made a reservation to do the Rice Table. We arrived right when they opened since our reservation was at 5pm. The ambience is casual with nice decor. The Rice Table includes a tremendous amount of food and an excellent variety. All of the chili sauces were perfect condiments for the dishes. Some of our favorites were the satay, the roti, and the clams, but everything truly was delicious and the staff was fantastic - everyone was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. We really loved our experience. My parents were born and raised in Indonesia so we grew up eating the "real stuff" and it was wonderful to be able to have high quality versions of the dishes that we grew up with. One of the chili sauces was something that my Mom used to make all of the time. It was such a lovely taste of home done so well.

Wr had such a delicious dinner last night-so many yummy flavors and varieties of dishes. The decor, staff, and great food create a festive dining experience!

We arrived earlier than our 5:30pm reservation but were still graciously seated, and immediately told about the “Golden Hour.” Our kind and informative server was thoughtfully descriptive when telling us about particular menu items we had questions about (e.g. Sambal flight), as well as made the recommendation of ordering rice with the Grilled Banana Leaf Black Cod (which was definitely appreciated), and checked in with us throughout the meal with perfect timing. We all agreed that every dish was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the Chinese Sausage & Shrimp Siu Mai w/spicy mustard, the Zucchini & Corn Fritter, and the Dry Aged Steak Tartare. The decor of the restaurant was colorful and eclectic which created a comfortable non-pretentious vibe. We look forward to our next visit!

We had a lot of fun at Gado Gado. Food was exciting and completely surpassed our expectations, staff were attentive and fun and thoughtfully offered us the most delicious homemade Jell-O shots on the house when they learned that we were “celebrating” a job layoff. A memorable dining experience. The papaya salad was out of this world!

One of the best spots in Portland. Great food made with love and creativity. Excellent service from real people who are kind and friendly. Fantastic atmosphere tha welcomes everyone.

Some of the best food we have had in a while. We ordered à la carte from both the happy hour and regular menu and there wasn't a bad dish to be found. Special recognition for their "allergy menu" so those with food restrictions can choose wisely. The staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes. Dishes were generally the perfect level of spiciness.
