Chef Wayne's full-service seafood restaurant, Hook & Anchor, has come to fruition after six successful years in the fast/casual sector. Using the freshest ingredients and fresh wild-caught fish has made himself a name in the Newport Beach (and surrounding areas). This time one dinner was good. The second dinner was not good. Good one was Newport’s Finest Salad. Dressings are very good and salad is abundant. Second dinner was hook fish. Halibut was chosen with sautéed veggies and fingerling potatoes. Fish was not seasoned and was very undercooked. Slimy, in fact. Veggies were also not seasoned and were very underwhelming. The kitchen forgot to serve the potatoes. When our waitress brought out a side of potatoes they were fine, but with the rest of the dinner being so bad… Also, skip ordering and paying for the bread. It is dry and tough. Not worth it. Too bad. We really enjoyed our first time meals. Hopefully it was just an off night, but one would think a seafood restaurant would know how to cook a piece of halibut.

All the food was delicious! I had the lobster roll, my wife has the seafood risotto, and our friend had the shrimp Alfredo, our server was awesome and took care of us. Great place will be coming back.

Very nice meal. Great service. One thought, I wish there had been a daily fish board somwhere on the south wall. I didn't know there were other fish choices from the menu.Overall, excellent, though.

This place is a definite come back to spot when we are around. The service was fast and efficient. The food was great. They are known for their Crab Cakes, in which we had. It was great, I don't eat Crab, but still was still great. We also had the Calamari Fries, The Lobster Deviled Eggs (Very Awesome), and the Salmon. All great choices. I recommend this place if you're near by.

Every thing was amazing. Had the blackberry lemon drop, clam chowder, lobster roll and shrimp alfredo and enjoyed them all. Huge pieces of lobster in the roll. The alfredo had great flavor without being too rich. The service was outstanding. From the check in, to our waiter, to the food team. Very welcoming. Can’t wait to go back!

First time at Hook & Anchor. Very good experience. Small issue over giving us an overly small table initially. They moved us and that was fine. The white clam chowder was piping hot and very tasty. A really good start. We both had the Newport’s Finest Salad. Salad had lobster, crab and grilled shrimp, mixed in with spring mix, romaine, baby tomatoes, radish, small cucumbers and generous avocado. Dressings were really good. Had the house.Chardonnay, which was good. Our server, Abby, was great. Very friendly, helpful and knew the menu very well. We were there early, but the whole place filled up pretty quickly. This was a very good dining experience. We definitely plan on returning.
