Had dined at Ichi Ni at St Kilda previously and was my first time to the Fitzroy restaurant. Food, service were great and surprisingly an open area at the rear of the premises hides its true size. A great experience

I had a large group booking of 12 for my birthday. the service was more than poor, the food menus were not provided for the first 45 minutes (even once all had arrived), and also not enough food or drink menus were given out. the booking was not set menu, however staff incorrectly assumed it was set menu due to the large booking. when I clarified early on that it was a la carte, the (kind) waitress said she would double check and get back to me with menus, however this didn’t happen and we had to ask again for food menus 15-20 minutes later. when the orders had been placed and food/drinks began to come out, multiple mistakes for food and drinks occurred. some food took an hour and a half+ to come out. nobody came to take the dessert orders for the people who requested a menu for dessert. we had to ask for water to be filled each time, staff was not very attentive, and no water jugs were provided (?). I ordered a $65 sashimi platter and ensured to clarify what it was (I pointed specifically on the menu), what came to the table an hour and a half later was a $120 platter that I did not order. instead of apologising for the delay and for the mistake, the waiter came over and immediately double downed with an attitude that it’s what I ordered. later on when I asked for the bill, the same waiter also came over with the eftpos machine without even letting us go over a $800+ bill. I understand large bookings are difficult to manage, but if it can’t be handled by staff to an acceptable standard, why offer a la carte for large bookings in the first place? I have been here previously with 1-2 people and the service has been excellent in the past, however this experience left a poor taste for us so I wouldn’t recommend large bookings to anybody who is looking to do so. whilst the food is spectacular and incredibly fairly priced, the service was extremely disappointing especially for what was supposed to be a birthday celebration with me and my friends.

Appeared understaffed. Very slow service and some items sold out (despite a 630pm arrival time). We were told several times that large functions were taking place and that was the reason for unavailable items and slow service. Previous visits here were good but this was a disappointment.

The $75 set menu is insane! Such good value for money and everything is delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive, we had Kurtis who was a dream!! Will definitely be coming back !

We had been there before a few years ago and went back to celebrate a birthday. I was surprised to see that the menu had increased substantially. However the food wasn't as good nor were the drinks. The price of the menu had increased substantially too. Overall we were underwelmed with the entire experience.
