Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

    Amazing vibes, amazing dishes, and top notch service. We honestly weren’t surprised by this but are always highly impressed by the level of perfection at Chef Joe’s restaurants. He even stopped by our table to say hello! We’re already planning our next dinner date. A MUST!

    I recently dined at Il Carciofo during its first week of opening, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We had our sights set on a $140 bottle of wine, only to be informed that it was sold out. Instead, our server suggested a $275 bottle, which felt more like an upsell than a genuine recommendation. This kind of approach is simply not acceptable, especially for a restaurant that should be focused on providing a welcoming experience to its guests. As for the food, it was average at best. I expected more given the hype surrounding the opening, but the dishes lacked the creativity and flavor I had hoped for. To top it all off, the service was horrendous. Our server seemed overwhelmed and inattentive, which added to the overall underwhelming atmosphere of the place. The decor and space itself left much to be desired, feeling neither inviting nor unique. Overall, Il Carciofo fell short of expectations. I left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return anytime soon.     You’d have never known it was opening weekend! Everything ran seamlessly! The food was amazing and our server gave us the best recommendations. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the dishes.

    We had a mixed experience at this restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive, which we appreciated, and all the drinks we tried were excellent. However, the food was hit-or-miss. The cacio e pepe, in particular, was so salty that it was nearly inedible, which was disappointing. For a Roman-inspired restaurant, the vibe fell flat—it didn’t evoke anything remotely Roman. The interior design felt more like a generic hotel lobby than a space with character or charm. Overall, not a place I’d rush back to, though the service and drinks deserve credit.

    For a first Saturday night service, you sure couldn’t tell. Biggest takeaway after the food was definitely the hospitality. Friendly host stand upon entering and throughout the evening the service team made sure to acknowledge guests as they were walking to their tables or headed out the door. Great recommendations from our server and the bar team delivered on the beverages, no proof included.

    We went opening week. Dinner took almost 3 hours but our server was great. Pasta was delish but was a tad too al dente for our tastes. Desserts were fantastic, absolutely get the gelato!

    I’ve been eagerly anticipating the opening of this restaurant since it was first announced, and it completely exceeded my expectations! If you're after authentic Roman dishes, this is the place to go. The amatriciana and carbonara were particularly outstanding. As a regular at Rose Mary, I'm accustomed to exceptional service, and Il Carciofo delivered just as flawlessly. Joe Flamm did not miss! Lastly, thank you to Hopelynn for taking care of us!

    It was amazing! The chef even came by to thank us for coming, you wouldn’t know this place has only been open for 2 days. Great service, good food and drinks, can’t wait to go back!
