Il Vecchio is one of my favorites. The food is authentic Italian(the chef owner was trained in Rome); well prepared, reasonably priced and served hot. The service is attentive, but not overbearing. The acoustics are well engineered to provide an atmosphere of people enjoying themselves, but designed so that you can have a conversation with everyone at your table without overusing your voice.

I had visited Il Vecchio before and had such a delicious meal that on a return visit to Pacific Grove this weekend, I had to go back. The ambience is softly lit and rustic and beautiful. Our server, Lisa, was very attentive, super friendly and gracious. I know this is an Italian restaurant with a plethora of mouth watering pasta dishes, but I ordered the steak and it was one of the best steaks I've had in ages. It had a delicious crust, tender and juicy inside and served with potatoes and vegetables. Paired with a glass of Pinot Noir, it was a perfect meal. I brought my brother with me and while he thought the steak was pricey, he was equally rhapsodic about the meal. Next time, I'll try the pasta! Alot of tourists to the area always go to Carmel and Monterey, but Pacific Grove is a best kept secret and this restaurant is a gem that should be added to your list. Reservations recommended.

Where do I start????? From arrival to departure all staff was attentive and polite, friendly,helpful and happy to be at work. It’s a great team effort. They don’t care what they do rather they are in it for the team environment. Food was off the charts, everything was made with love and skill you have to try it all. This restaurant is dialed In, no room for mistakes. Our server made every moment memorable as we were celebrating my wife’s 50th birthday and it was everything I could’ve hoped for!!!!!!! 5 yrs later from our first time and it was like we never left…..my daughter was floored with the food she was speechless!!!!!!! Best she’s ever eaten!!!!!

I was so disappointed in our meal the other night I can hardly believe it. My Caesar salad was horrible. It was limp, lettuce, and mushy tomatoes. The dressing was basically mayo and garlic. It was far from any Caesar dressing I’ve ever had and at $16 for a salad it should’ve been much better. Additionally, while the clam chowder soup was OK the tiny tiny potatoes seem to have been still frozen in the soup. They were rock hard. Additionally, my husband‘s meal, which was the truffle risotto was a pile of mush instead of flaky individual rice kernels. It was flavorless tasteless and it was one big clump of risotto rice. At $28 for a bowl of risotto you would think that they could at least make it correctly.

Food was terrific. My carbonara was super hearty and a very satisfying treat after feeling completely depleted from a long bike ride earlier in the day. The pear salad and the fried artichoke was also delicious and my wife and daughter both enjoyed their entrees. The desserts (ice cream sundaes) were fun / yummy. I’d like to see more local wineries represented on the wine list. The Italian white we had was good, not great. Not sure of the value, mainly because I’m not super familiar with Italian wines. If cocktails are more your thing, they have a full bar and the house cocktails looked like they would be good. Seating was pretty cramped. Our table was jammed in between two other tables and we didn’t have much wiggle room and I unfortunately bumped into the person behind me trying to (carefully) exit the table. Service was attentive and pleasant.

Very disappointed in the food and overall cost. I wanted to give the new owners time to work out all the kinks with running a restaurant. I know it's not easy. Sad to lose a favorite restaurant from the past. I will not be going back.

This was our first time dining here, but won’t be our last! The wait staff was professional, friendly and provided great service. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and the Rigatoni. Both had alot of flavor and nice servings. Thank you for a pleasant evening!

Il Vecchio was once the best value for excellent Italian cuisine in the Monterey area, but a change in ownership rose prices and lowered overall quality. Fortunately the pasta and ragus are still top-notch, especially the osso bucco gnocchi. Don't order the caprese starter - it uses cherry tomatoes, which are hard to eat with the burrata.

Our food was fantastic! We had the bread starter as an app. For meals we had the chicken cacio e pepe and the pesto salsiccia. Shared a side of roasted garlic broccoli! We cleared the plates. We were so full, but got the chocolate mascarpone cake and a cannoli to go. They were gone quickly at home. My only complaint about the experience is that although we were seated and taken care of with the bread very quickly, the kitchen took about 30+ minutes to get us our food. As a pregnant person I was getting hangry! It just seemed like the kitchen was pumping out a lot of to-go/door dash orders, and those were taking priority. Overall though, we were really happy with the food, value for the price, and the kindness of the staff. We will be back!
