Opened in 2011, Indigenous has earned a reputation for being an inspirational and educational restaurant. For years, Indigenous has been known as one of America’s top restaurants, renowned for its passion for food, the community, and the planet. Indigenous’ menu of seasonal American cuisine changes progressively throughout the year based on peak ingredient availability. With a focus on sustainable seafood, we work closely with local fisherman, artisans, and farmers to maintain the highest quality. At Indigenous, we are always working our best to create a better food system. Owner Chef Steve Phelps has been a James Beard Foundation Semi Finalist for Best Chef South in 2014 & 2015, an Ambassador for Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force, and a founding member and Chef for the EDF Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture.

We've been dining at Indigenous since the restaurant opened and always enjoy it. The Valentine's Day dinner, in my opinion, not quite up to their usual standard. The first course was good but not great. The appitizers were ok but not great. The shrimp dinner was the same. The tile fish was excellent. Desert was also. Service was, as usual, excellent.

Indigenous continues to be our favorite restaurant in Sarasota. We have been 5 or 6 times now and it is consistently excellent. Food is delicious and is comes from a variety of sources. Always fresh and tasty. The service is extraordinary. Although we are only seasonal residents of Sarasota, dinner at Indigenous is always a must for us.

The Chef gets a 1 star. I like that the menu changes weekly. I was very cautious to make sure I checked the menu early in the week of our reservation to make sure there was something I could eat. I have several food allergies. I found a pork chop that only needed to have the sauce not served. I thought that would be an easy request. At first, the chef refused to serve the pork chop without his hollandaise sauce. I’m sure it would have made the pork chop that much more special, but I can’t eat eggs without being really sick. Our server really went to bat for me. I was told he’d accommodate me this one time, but to not come back. I recognize that as a chef he is creating masters of art. But give me a break, to not accommodate a food allergy? All five or so menu items included ingredients I’m allergic to. Trust me, we will not be back. There are so many nice restaurants in Sarasota that would have served the pork chop without a sauce. Geeesh.

Lovely venue and great compact menu that changes every few weeks The portions for sharing are perfect and the main plates were sizeable but not overwhelming!

We were blown away by the creative plates of food we ordered. It was outstanding. Like, the best thing we've ever eaten. Can't wait to go back.

Outstanding food and service seated in the intimate wine cottage. Olivia our server was very attentive and explained every dish in detail.
