Our waiter/ server saved what was going to be a horrible review. He was actually the only positive about this experience. But, whoever the red headed older lady is at the front (I’m guessing she’s a hostess) is terrible. I had reservations for a birthday party, which I called about and specifically asked for a special table and was reassured it would be ready. When I got there, she told me the table was at the very back and literally just flicked her wrist and pointed to the back of the restaurant, but did not walk me back like a good host should. Ok, whatever, I figured I’d just find it myself, but when I got there, there was a man sitting there. Alone. I went back to the front and told her someone was there that wasn’t in my party. Then she tried to give me another table that was in the middle of the restaurant where it would be loud, not tucked back as requested. No apology or effort to accommodate at this point. A few other people arrived and sat down at the back table that was supposed to be for my party. She could tell I was annoyed and only then offered to ask the other people to move. To which I replied “ yes, please “. The other party, was also annoyed at being asked to move and some rude lady from their group made a nasty comment to my friend whose birthday it was that we were celebrating! Here’s the thing; The difficulty of this situation could have been EASILY AVOIDED if anyone at all had a clue about how hospitality works. The restaurant was literally EMPTY when I got there, with the exception of the man sitting at our table. Any of the 6 employees standing around watching could have stepped in and accommodated both of us, but instead waited until things became complicated with other people from both parties arriving and not knowing what to do. This was totally unacceptable at an establishment of this “caliber”. For the prices of the (sub par) food, people expect a certain level of customer service at least equal to or better than at a chick-fil-a.

We went for brunch and had excellent service. The food was very good, just eggs and pancakes but still very good.

We went for date night and enjoyed the meal. Drinks were really yummy. Lobster Jar app was great. We also had the bacon & eggs app which was good… just very simple and what you’d expect for deviled eggs & bacon at home. (Nothing fancy or unique about it). My husband tried two diff bourbon drinks, the Colombian (which was okay) and the Rare Books Barrel Pick & he loved it. I had the Eye of the Tiger. It was yummy. The Chicken Paillard was fine. Nothing special. The real let down was the fact that they had a speakeasy attached that was the reason we had gone. We had no clue there was eating on that side. So we ate dinner with the expectation for drinks afterwards only to find out that the speakeasy side (Rare Books) was on a 30 min wait. We would’ve gladly ate on that side had we known. Or at least we would’ve been on the wait list while we finished our food. It was kind of a let down so we went ahead and left. It was an expensive meal, and even though it was decent food, I don’t think we’d return. Not for the amount it cost. We spent over $200 on our evening, we shared a plate, had two apps & 2 drinks each.

J Theodore's was not as busy as usual. Service was good. Food was great. The house wine is very good.

Very overpriced for what it is. It’s a mid-level restaurant in terms of service, menu and ambiance but the prices are fine dining level. $250 for a date night at a place like this is crazy. Drinks are $18-20 each. $23 for a tiny serving of little itty bitty pieces of calamari. $44 for four medium size scallops served with under cooked risotto. Service was moderate at best.

My wife and I sat outside by the fire. It was a cool but not too cold. The fire and hesters were very nice to have as well as the blankets they provide. Food was great and server was on it.

The only reason I’m leaving 1 star is to leave this review. Just wow! My friend and I had a 10pm reservation when we arrived the hostess told us that the kitchen was closed and we were thoroughly confused. So she told us we could have drinks and we decided to sit down for drinks. Then we decided well we’re hungry and no need to drink in empty stomach’s. As we’re leaving a waitress stops us and says the hostess was wrong the kitchen is open so we’re like ok great! We sit back down and start looking over the menu. She tells us our waitress will be with us soon. So when our waitress arrives - the first thing she says is btw the kitchen is closed. Like at this point I’m confused annoyed and thinking they’re playing a joke. We decide to leave because there’s no point in dining at this place. Terrible terrible! I have no desire to come back.
