Excellent dinner. I only gave 4 stars for service because my glass of red wine came when I was half finished with my entree. In all fairness, I should have pointed it out earlier as the waiter wasn’t overly busy.

Oh. My. God. This place has EVERYTHING. If you find yourself in Peru, Vermont—and I mean, why wouldn’t you? It’s the hottest small town tucked away in the mountains—you need to check out JJ Hapgood General Store & Eatery, the crown jewel of rustic chic vibes. This place has: •Wood-fired pizza so good it makes you question all your life choices. •Artisanal cocktails served in glasses that somehow make you feel like you’re starring in a Hallmark movie. •A cozy fire pit out back for those “I just came in from hiking but also I’m here for the small-town magic” moments. •A porch packed with locals who all look like they know how to build a barn but also probably have an MFA. •And the characters—oh, the characters. There’s: •Flannel-clad Brandon, who’s always “just stopping in for a coffee” but stays for three hours. •Jessica with the dog, who orders her pup a side of bacon (and no one judges her). •And Devon, who tells stories that may or may not be ghost lore but are absolutely mesmerizing. The food? Amazing. The vibe? Immaculate. The vibe while eating the food? Next level. Whether you’re devouring a pizza or sipping on something infused with elderflower, JJ Hapgood makes you feel like you’re part of the town. For one night, you’re not just a visitor; you’re a Vermonter who knows all about sugaring season and what time the plow goes by. JJ Hapgood isn’t just a tavern. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a vibe. It’s the only place in Peru where you can sit down by the fire pit and wonder, “Wait, am I about to join a CSA?” You HAVE to go. You just HAVE to.

This charming Vermont general store has it all - snacks, espresso drinks, exquisite pastries and lunch options, and a full service restaurant four nights a week. The craft cocktails and entrees were superb, the service excellent - so much more than you’d expect from a general store. I recommend this gem whole-heartedly!
