Joe’s Crab Shack offers a variety of favorites from all parts of the sea and shore. From its extensive menu, guests can choose from buckets of seasonal seafood, fried shrimp platters and fish dishes, as well as options from the “mainland” that include steak, sandwiches, and chicken. Guests can indulge in over-sized and creative cocktails, such as the Shark Bite which is playfully garnished with a shark toy. Since its inception, Joe’s popularity has stemmed not only from its menu, but also its retail store. With various pieces of merchandise for purchase, including the ever-popular tie-dye T-shirt with the phrase “Peace, Love and Crabs,” Joe’s has become synonymous with the word “fun.”

Table was dirty when seated. Server didn’t refill water at all. Shrimp and crab were overcooked. Very loud; only redeeming part was the view.

The hostess at the stand was very helpful. She handed us off to a flouncy, grumpy, young lady who couldn’t have cared less about our happiness. Not a great start. We had someone quickly come to our table and take our drink orders. She was great! Shortly after another server came by to take our drink order - better too much help than not enough! It was obvious that the new shift and servers were coming on and it seemed like they were trying to figure out whose table was whose, which o get. But they were having very animated and intense discussions around our table a few times…. Awkward. The calamari appetizer was piping hot when it came out! Yay. The jalepenos were weird and I would have preferred less veggies and more calamari - also aioli instead of red sauce is my preference. My beer was ice cold! Yay!! The fish and chips was massive. Not sure who needs that much fried fish in one sitting. I would rather pay less for a reasonable helping. The hush puppies were amazing! Didn’t try the slaw or fries - no room.

Took my niece for lunch on Sunday and was very disappointed. We ordered a peel and eat shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was extremely overcooked and most of them were never cleaned before cooking, so we had to use our crab forks to try and clean them. I ordered a land and sea plate. The steak was good and cooked well, but the shrimp was again overcooked and the crab had zero flavor at all. As we walked back to the car, I wished we would have booked at one of the many other restaurants in Old Town Sacramento. For the price we paid for lunch, the food should have been better. Will not be back any time soon.

Snow crab was overcooked, stringy and flavorless. Fried shrimp dinners were fried at too high of a temperature and were chewy and dry. Fries, on the other hand, were under cooked and soaking in grease. The manager did apologize and made a price adjustment on our bill, which we appreciated, yet, I'm not sure I would risk eating here again.

Marco, our waiter, was outstanding—very personable and friendly. He was well-informed about the updated menu options and drinks. We loved him and his personality. Every time we visit, we hope to have him as our waiter. The service was awesome, and the customer service was excellent. The seafood was fabulous, just as advertised!

Fun and lively place with outstanding sunset view on the Sacramento river. We waited at the bar for a window table. Cocktail selections were all very sweet- nothing sophisticated- but the margaritas were tasty and made well. The hostess texted when the table was ready, then gave up our table when I didn’t respond within 3 minutes. But they gave us the next open window table. Service was good at the table. Food came out timely. The crab legs were cold, but the shells weren't soft so it cracked well. The shrimp was rubbery. My steak was dry. Potatoes were soupy and the broccoli was overcooked. All the flavors were good, though. The breaded shrimp and fish were ok, but everything was lukewarm. The second round of drinks weren't made as well. Entrees were about $40 each and poorly executed. The sugar-bomb cocktails were about $10 each. It’s a good place to have a good time with good service. Just keep the expectations low for the kitchen.
