We went at lunch and there were only 2 service staff. It took a long time for the service staff to come back to take our orders. As we were on a tight lunch schedule, we found that rather fustrating. Other than that, the food and ambience was good.

At first glance, the place looks very inviting, tables not to close to each other, pleasant lighting etc. But the background music was ridiculously loud and when we asked to have it turned down this was not possible for some reason. The restaurant was only quarter full when we were there, so if it had been more full the noise would have been unbearable. The dish I had - a pasta with brisket ragu - was pretty average.

Surely some of the best home made pasta in Melbourne! A small but thoughtful menu (the vegetarian eggplant was extraordinary!) and a similarly small but considered wine list (the Soave is superb!) White linen tablecloths, soft lighting, great music, attentive but discreet staff. My favourite place on Lygon Street!

Service was absolutely awful. I don’t know if it was because they were understaffed that day, but the section waiters didn’t even come to our table. They kept ignoring us. We had to constantly try and get their attention. The price for the food isn’t worth it either. I wouldn’t say that the food was bad, it was mediocre at best. The focaccia was amazing. But for the mains, it really isn’t worth the price. On top of that, they accidentally put another bowl of fries on our table. We did tell them that we only ordered one bowl of fries, but the section waiter told us we could just have it for free as a compensation since they were out of mains a few people had wanted. But they still tried to charge us for 2 bowl of fries, despite us telling them we only ordered 1 and that they wouldn’t put the extra fries on the bill. tldr: food was mediocre and overpriced service was terrible

We had a beautiful night out for our Anniversary. It’s just like being in Italy. Bravo King & Godfree!

This is a must go to, a real gem in the heart of Carlton. Iconic and genuine staff that are most caring and wanting to please. Food, drinks , and furniture comfortable made to feel very welcome

The food overall was generous in serving size, flavoursome and delivery to table was prompt. The downside was that it wasn't particularly hot - this didn't bother me as much as it did my husband. I will stress though that I'm not too fussy. Regardless the service was impeccable and all our wait staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable - they even made us drinks that weren't in the menu which was really appreciated and enjoyable. Overall an enjoyable experience. Would go again.

Great atmosphere sitting in the deli section. Cannot fault the food - every course was very good. Very enjoybale family dinner

Service was poor - had to ask for water and bread 4 times . Staff probably overstretched Meal was mediocre with meat stringy in part and tough. Presented with wrong bill .Cheese board at $38 - you are joking for a cheese store !!!! Overall pretty poor - inexpensive but what for ?
