Inspired by the coastal regions of Provence and Saint-Tropez, La Serre, located in Fulton Market, invites guests into a lush and colorful greenhouse setting. The culinary approach highlights the light and vibrant cuisine of Provence, with a focus on native techniques and ingredients, offering lighter takes on the dishes of the French-Mediterranean landscape. La Serre is in a great location, lots of street energy and the ambiance was nice. When we arrived, we sat at the bar and had some great cocktails while waiting for our guest to arrive. Once seated, I noticed the table had drips of food on it probably from the previous diners. Our server was not very attentive and it took a while to order our appetizer and bottle of wine. the appetizer came and went before the bottle of wine arrived at the table. I had bits of food stuck to my wine glass as well. The food was very good but table placement was sloppy, lots of reaching over things by the staff. My wife mentioned to the waitress that it was my birthday and arranged for a desert to be brought to the table after dinner which was never brought out :( The noise level was outrageous, you literally needed to lean in to the table to follow the conversation.

Initial experience was poor. We checked in for our 745 reservation a few minutes early, but were not seated until around 830pm. Once seated, experience was great.

It was the holiday season so very busy. We were an early reservation (6PM - the only time available before 9). They sat us at a 4 top banquette at the far end of the row against the window. It was just my wife and me. There were numerous two top tables in the main room. I was very cold and asked if we could be moved to the interior. the response was that the heater was on and I should be fine. Our waiter introduced herself and then we didn't see her again for 20 minutes. I ordered my steak medium rare my wife pasta. When we got our food the steak was medium well (no pink). I called a wait staff after about 5 minutes (not our waiter) to alert our server who came over in about another 5 minutes. She asked if I wanted another one. By this time my wife was half done with her food. the manager came over in another 5 minutes to ask the same thing. I explained to her that my wife was almost finished with her pasta (which was mediocre at best). they did offer us free dessert and said they would take the steak off the bill. The one positive was the sommelier, who was very helpful and gave us an excellent recommendation. However, that is not enough to convince us to give this place another try. Too many other good restaurants in Chicago for the money with much better food.

Excellent choice for a special dinner. Service and ambience was warm and inviting. Food was prepared perfectly. We had the dover sole and the linguini with clams. Would highly recommend!
