Malin is a small neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Rathdowne Village, Carlton North.

Set in an 1880s property on the corner of Curtain and Rathdowne streets, the site has been renovated to honour the heritage of the building.

The food menu, developed by Chef Clement Pilatre, samples European cuisine and showcases seasonal produce and frequently changing dishes. The drinks list favours emerging wine producers, while also giving a nod to the classics.

Malin aims to deliver engaging service 5 days a week; with dinner served Wednesday to Saturday and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Chefs Clement Pilatre & Ronith Arlikatti are teaming up to bring a special six course dinner to Malin on Monday 7th April 2025. The experimental menu will showcase the versatility and finesse between French & Indian cuisines, with each dish a unison of heritage. Menu: Snacks Course: Rock oyster, eye fillet, champagne sabayon, oscietra caviar Sago fritter, finger lime cucumber, mountain pepper Carrot acharu, duck ham, remoulade Duck cromesquis, truffle, mushroom Green mango, rice bhelpuri Cold Entree Course: Red tuna, mustard ice cream, strawberry, sesame Hot Entree Course: Tandoori marron, bisque Pomme de terre souffle, bearnaise sauce Main Course: Ballotine chicken, vegetable, cashew crème Sides Cheese Course: Ossau-iraty, jurancon sorbet, yellow peach cinnamon compote Dessert Course: Savory panna cotta, feuilletine white chocolate, tomato, herb sorbet Macademia katli, mango kaffir macaron Dietary requirements must be made at the time of booking and can not be accommodated without prior notice on the day.

What a Carlton treasure ! Every dish was beautifully crafted and delicious . Chef Clement Pilatre has excelled at his craft and has remained true to the name of this restaurant MALIN is very clever !

Outstanding in every way from the moment you enter. There was clearly a lot of thought behind the restaurant. The room is lovely, tables set with linen. The room feels serene and luxurious. The food is superb, modern French with an Australian accent. Every dish was outstanding. Service is relaxed and friendly. I highly recommend a dinner at Malin. I look forward to a return visit.

We had a fantastic experience at Malin. The food was sensational and the service outstanding. Every team member was friendly and informative. They were also happy to assist with minor modifications to address my husbands need for reduced dairy. I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant and the team within it. Thanks for such a lovely evening.

Great little place great service great food……..The only thing I would say is that our pre dinner drinks were smaller than usual I’ve had…….keep up the good work

A gem in the North. An environment of simplicity and understated elegance is balanced with warmth and personality from the staff; matched with exceptional produce and you've got yourself a wonderful dining experience. Cannot wait to return!

We were met at the door by two smiling service staff and enjoyed a sumptuous and exciting six courses of seafood, duck and beef- all melt in the mouth tasty delights. The ambience was charming, the prices were most reasonable and we both very much enjoyed the whole experience. Highly recommend!

Really lovely ambience and setting. Lovely staff. Good food. We totally enjoyed our time at Malin restaurant. Friendly and "approachable". We had the "feed me" option and (our fault) didn't check who liked oysters (not all of us) or goats cheese (not all of us) however, the food was delicious. Two suggestions for improvement...Malin have a very limited cocktail menu with an offer to make your personal favourite if they have the ingredients. We requested an Aperol Spritz and while the drink that arrived was fresh and enjoyable, it definitely wasn't an aperol. Also, the end-of-service could have been improved. After we had finished eating there was no offer of a dessert wine or coffees etc. The coffee offering is very slim also. Please focus on the part where we actually had a great afternoon - the other points are only minor.
