Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

                                                              Una de mis experiencias mas agradables. Primera vez en Hawaii (Kona island) y aunque la noche empezó mal (mucho viento y sin posibilidad de ver el atardecer por la lluvia) tuvimos paciencia y poco a poco el clima mejoró. Estuvimos esperando en el bar a que nuestra mesa quedara lista. El ambiente muy tranquilo, clima agradable ya que la lluvia cesó y después de nuestras bebidas y por al retraso de la espera (entendible por el clima, mas de la mitad de las mesas están afuera del restaurante), la host no nos cobró las bebidas y a partir de ahi todo fue maravilloso. Las bebidas, el entremés, las costillas de cordero, el pez dorado... en fin. Mi esposa y yo quedamos muy contentos y aunque el precio es caro, valió la pena. Si tuvieramos oportunidad de regresar a Kona, definitivamente buscaríamos cenar nuevamente en el Manta. 1000% recomendable.

                                                              Amazing 5* service. They attend to you well, as you'd expect from a high end restaurant. The food all tasted good but I wasn't blown away. The best item I'd say was my 16oz prime Rib steak special but it costs $98! I was shocked when I got the bill. It was delicious but certainly not a cut worth that cost. The Mahi Mahi crusted fish was also very good. One very nice surprise wad they offered a reasonable kids menu. The view was also fantastic but unfortunately the mantas were not visiting that night due to the high waves. That was the biggest disappointment. I don't blame the restaurant though. It was certainly out of their control.

                                                              We had a lovely dinner on the covered patio. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about items on the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and after a few minutes, the waitress came back and said that bottle was out of stock but that the manager recommended a different bottle. He came to the table , introduced himself and talked to us about the new wine selection and why he chose it for us. We had a mixed green salad that was a special item and some oysters with a delicious mignonette. I had the Ahi recommended by our server and my husband ordered the Hawaiian catch. However, when our meals came, my husband got the wrong entree-the macadamia crusted mahi mahi-which he enjoyed . We didn’t bring the error to anyone’s attention. The Bombe Alaska was a delicious dessert.

                                                              We knew before we went that the hotel is undergoing a major rebuild. Manta was lovely upon arrival. Nice bar with some vintage live music. Menu was broad. We split main entree special - the Hawaiian Sea Bass. Excellent. Scallop ravioli was very good not great. They are clearly having staff issues our server was very friendly not very attentive. We will be back after the renovation and try it again!
