Featuring modern renditions of classic American seafood, Max’s Oyster Bar menu has something for everyone. While seafood is the focal point, there are selections for even the most ardent landlubber. Ethnic influences are apparent throughout a menu filled with new interpretations on traditional fare. The raw bar offers an extensive variety of bi-coastal oysters and shellfish.

In it’s freshman year, 1999, Max’s Oyster Bar was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine. Since then it has won numerous Reader’s Choice Awards, including “Best Seafood Restaurant”. Zagat’s Survey has also given Max’s Oyster Bar an “extraordinary” rating.

We went to Max's Oyster Bar for New Year's Eve dinner. We had reservations at 5:00pm, we got there a little late and sat down at 5:10. We ordered a drink and our dinners expecting to have a nice relaxing dinner.... our salad came within a minute after ordering, as they were picking up the salad dishes our lump crab cake comes out. We had no time in between salad and crab cake. We were just finishing the crab cake and our main dishes come out. So the whole meal from the time we sat down to the time they clear our dinner plates was 40 mins. We felt like we were are Appleebee's on a Friday night getting pushed out the door so the next group of people could have the table. That's fine when I'm paying $75 for the meal. This meal with tip was $358 with tip (2 entrees, 1 salad, 1 crab cake, 1 bottle of wine) I had Chilean Sea Bass ($49) and my wife had Scallops ($39). My wife liked her meal, mine was just OK not a lot of flavor. We have gone to Max's Oyster bar before and had good food, tonight was not good and not even close to the $358 we spent. Not sure we will be back.

Max Restaurant Group just simply gets it's right...Food, Service, Experience always amazing!!! Max Oyster is our favorite restaurant!!

I used to go to Max's Oyster Bar often in the late 90's when I lived and worked in the area. I have since moved to Boston and then Maine but was able to go to Max's for lunch while visiting family over Christmas 2024. My husband and I were blown away by the menu, the food, the service, the ambiance, and the prices. We got the seafood tower plus some extra oysters and it was fantastic and a much better value than those we have ordered in Maine! Everything else on the menu looked creative and delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Matt, our server, was excellent; very knowledgable and very friendly. What a fantastic lunch. We will be back ASAP.

I ordered a Caesar salad and fried oyster platter. Everything was delicious. My companion ordered one of the many specials and was very pleased.

This is a reliable restaurant with a warm friendly atmosphere and a great menu for anyone in your group. A neighborhood fave.

I was surprised by how thin the bone-in ribeye was. The broccoli rabe was not seasoned well. Service was very slow with respect to refilling water, bringing the wine menu, taking my wine order, bringing the wine. The room was very loud. The tables were heavy and when they were pushed they would stick and then quickly gave way causing a glass to fall over and spill a glass of wine.
