We wanted to wait a couple of weeks after it opened to really sit down and enjoy the food at POGU. We opted for the a la carte option to taste the quality before committing to the Chefs Pick option. We sat down at 5:55pm, ordered an appetizer and 2 main dishes. The appetizer of blue crab cabbage came out within minutes - it ended up being the best dish we ordered. Then came my eel bibimbap, which I was warned by the waitstaff was a hot bowl. The bowl may have been hot, but the food was lukewarm, the eel way overcooked and chewy. Was not enjoyable at all, I ate less than half. My husband got the bulgogi rice bowl - nothing spectacular. The food came out so fast it tasted like the meat was just reheated, which made it all tough and chewy. We tried to linger, but it wasn’t possible - we were offered our check, though desserts were not suggested to us. We paid and walked out by 6:30! Not what we expected for a dinner out. Our table was in the far corner of the restaurant (that was not crowded) and connected next to what appeared to be a bussing station. Also only a beverage size napkin and while pretty, the smallest glass for water. Also, please give food menus to all people eating. We were handed three menus - I assumed 2 food and a drink menu, however one was food, one was beer/wine and one was cocktails. Too many options for good Korean food in the city - unfortunately this was a miss.

Do not waste your money. We were very disappointed our food had been sitting out for a significant amount of time. When we received it, it was room temperature and did not taste good at all. This place is a cash grab. You’re better off going somewhere else.

Had the chef’s tasting menu, very disappointing. The worst was the dessert. We had 2 tasting menu and one dessert was hard texture while the other one was creamy. We thought the hard one was frozen. When we brought it up, waitress said it’s suppose to be hard texture but couldn’t explain why the other one was a soft cream and mushy.

Service was very slow, had to really be aggressive to get someone to pay attention. Food was not hot and pretty mediocre. Disappointed in this first visit.

We decided to get al la carte items (rice/noodle and soups) given the bad reviews for the prefix (chef’s pick) menu. For every pro there’s a con - the a la cart items were tasty but you can get something similar at any Korean restaurant and probably pay a little less than what Pogu charges - We got complementary mochi bread but it was cold and not warm as you would expect - We got small sides of “kimchi” but it’s doesn’t look or taste like authentic kimchi - The waitress was nice but very inexperienced and disappeared for long stretch of time - Supposed to be high end dining but more like cafeteria (there was a trash bin next to our table) - Easy to make reservations via open table but charged the deposit on my credit card in advance for the reservation. Had to show them the credit card charge and ask them to process the refund. That was a hassle - In summary, glad we tried it but will not be back

At dinner (for 2), we shared one chef's tasting me and the kimchi stew. The meal was excellent - the chef's tasting menu include a squash soup, sashimi salad, buckwheat noodles with chicken, beef short rib, and a sweet cream with rice cake dessert. The portions are on a bit on the smaller side but each bite is flavorful. The kimchi stew was tasty and spicy. Our waiter was friendly and checked in throughout the meal. Ambience is modern. There are some areas of improvement: - The kimchi in the stew could be cooked down a little more. Typically the kimchi is this type of soup is soft but some pieces were crunchy, suggesting that they were not boiling for too long. The adjacent table ordered the same dish and they seemed surprised that their soup came out within 2 minutes of ordering, and admittedly, I think this suggests that the soup is mostly pre-made and the tofu + kimchi are simply added to the broth and served. At this price point, I think people would expect that the soup is made to order. - There could more beef in the short rib dish. It came with one rib - at this price, would be ideal to have 2-3 ribs. - The service could be optimized. I get the sense that they are a little understaffed at the moment and figuring out the flow of service. At this price point, I think patrons expect that service will be well coordinated and seamless. - The inside of the restaurants is modern. To highlight the intimacy of the restaurant, it would be nice to install curtains around the restaurant so that diners feel more separated from the market. - Water cups are too small. It would be nice to serve barley tea (at no cost). - I'm giving 5 stars for overall rating but this is mostly to offset some negative reviews, which I think are too extreme.
