The highest quality home made food using only the best locally sourced ingredients

We only use locally sourced fresh produce, and if it’s at all possible to make it ourselves – we do! - including all sauces, desserts, breads and ice creams. PLEASE book whenever possible in the shoot season as we have many shoot parties and are so very well supported by our locals that we often dont have a table unless you have pre-booked - but do call us as we can sometimes get a last minute cancellation or we can squeeze in a couple of people

On a dreary Monday evening in November, we weren't expecting much when we booked a table at the Royal Oak. We were completely mistaken! The food, ambiance and service was all excellent and much better than expected. We will certainly be back, and tell all our friends too!

A return visit after a few years and pleased to say it was as good as I remembered. A classic English country pub in the heart of Exmoor, with glorious home cooked food of an impressive standard. The Exmoor Ales were perfect too. Our dog was made very welcome and the whole experience was delightful. Prices on the higher side but worth it.

An absolutely wonderful experience at the Royal Oak in Winsford. This is a lovely pub, with everything you’d expect from a visit to Exmoor. Right from the friendly welcome, everything was perfect. Roaring fire, great service with a smile at the bar and at the table. A good range of dishes on the menu, we didn’t have starters but they sounded great. One of us had the lamb and one the pan-fried hake. Both were delicious and good sized portions. Good GF choice too. Desserts were amazing- sticky toffee pudding and creme brûlée. We can’t wait to return and have decided to stay in Winsford (they do rooms too!) so that this is on our doorstep next time.

Superb food and friendly service a real gem. A delicious menu with so many options I would like to try. Can’t wait to come back again

A weekday lunch time but busy. Warm welcome, large and solid table in the back room with plenty of space for our extremely wet spaniel to dry out in comfort after a morning in the rain, excellent venison burgers and pints. Perfect for the occasion.

4 adults went out for dinner. Our table was rather too close to a family with a very young child. One of our number is hard of hearing. We were quickly moved to a more suitable table. The food was very good. In my view the chef was trying rather too hard on the aesthetics……for example, food was served in bowls(very nice ones) which made filleting a fish, draped attractively over potatoes, rather difficult. So too the removal of confit duck from its bones. It too was placed on top of a mound of delicious mashed potato. Micro herbs had to be removed from another meal before it could be seen.

We love this place the food is outstanding, particularly the choice of gluten free meals which is so rare! Staff are friendly and helpful and the ambience is great 😊

A great place to eat, meet friends and enjoy the beautiful village and countryside around. Food was excellent, large servings. Staff were friendly and attentive. I will definitely eat there again soon.

Lovely meal. I chose Guinea Fowl for main course - somewhat unusual on a menu. Landlady and staff were friendly leading to an enjoyable evening.

Lovely evening at Royal Oak with family. Amazing food cooked by Chef Steve Harding. Attentive, friendly staff led by Landlady Jayne and Partner Steve. A great Saturday night atmosphere. Thanks All.
