Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus. Absolutely brilliant the food was wonderful and the service was really good. They couldn’t do enough for us put us at a minute. We got there and were extremely helpful.

Delicious food, but expensive. Even charged extra for a bit of extra sauce for the crispy duck. Very quick service.

The Customer service was top notch!!! The staff were really friendly and amazing. The restaurant had a really good ambience. The food was nice, with more than enough portions. I will definitely visit again.

Booked a table for mine and my boyfriend's birthday as we share the same day. Both extremely happy with the night. Food was fast and hot, polite service and very attentive but not too much. Atmosphere was just right and the inside is beautifully decorated. Received a complementary cheese cake for our birthday which was such a lovely touch. Highly recommended. 5* will be returning. Thank you!!!
