While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.

The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

Food was as good as I remember but smaller portions for a higher price. Acoustics in the room were loud and the set up in the main dining area was strange with payment kiosks in the center of the room. Overall amazing

We were huge fans of the Slanted Door San Francisco. We were excited to see that there is now a location in Napa. Ok NOT THE SAME! We do not know what happened, maybe a corporate influence, maybe original owners have too many locations to stay hands on? Not worth the expense. The tip is automatically added into the bill so there is zero motivation for outstanding service. The Shaking Beef has been a favorite for years, not anymore. The beef came in huge chewy chunks! In the past it was sliced thin, carmelized, and full of delicious veggies like bok choy. The dish now is lack luster. The host told us that they had never used fresh crab in their crab and glass noodle dish, it is out of a can!??!?!?!? Gross! We remember the dish being toted in San Francisco as a local favorite BECAUSE it was made with FRESH dungeness crab! not paying that price for canned crab! This will not be a stop the next time we are in Napa!

First time at this location and enjoyed the food and service. The noise level was at a max due to the ceiling design and nothing to mitigate this. Looked like eating in the bar would have been a better option.

We have been dining at different locations of the Slanted Door since their first place on Valencia Street in SF. We have always been impressed with how consistently delicious the food has been. This experience in Napa was no different. We were 15 minutes late (we had called to let them know) and they were incredibly gracious and accommodating from the get go. Service was impeccable. And the food did not disappoint. There were 6 of us. We shared the Gau --Gau dumplings (a must), grapefruit jicama salad (so refreshing), tuna special, spring rolls, lamb chops, cellophane noodles, chicken claypot, bok choy. All delicious. The restaurant is gorgeous, with several rooms (and outdoor seating in warm weather) and a bit off the Napa beaten path, but with a convenient parking lot (including an EV charger!)

Charles always seems to be on the move with his restaurants but Slanted Door is stellar wherever it is…standards are high and the food is consistently excellent. Thanks for another great meal.

Food did not arrive until 1.5 hours after we ordered. A table of 4 that sat a few minutes before us got their food in 30 minutes. A table of 3 that arrived 30 minutes after us received their food before us. Both of these tables finished their food by the time our food arrived. We asked the bus boy for the status of our food after 60 minutes and asked the host after 75 minutes. The restaurant was NOT crowded. Terribly slow. Very disappointed.
