Sol Mar Restaurant & Marisqueira is one of the leading seafood restaurants in New Jersey. It is family operated, opened in 1957, and focused on authentic Portuguese & Mediterranean cuisines. The interior of Sol-Mar is handcrafted as carefully as the menu, as diners are transported across the Atlantic as soon as they walk through the doors thanks to the authentic decor and style of the dining room. It is located just a few blocks from Newark Penn Station, close to Newark International Airport, in the famous neighborhood of Ironbound.
Sol Mar’s menu experience featuring the finest seafood catch from regional coasts and international waters in Portugal and all over the world is showcased at your table. Diners who aren't feeling the taste of seafood can still order other dishes such as grilled porterhouse steak, pork chops in garlic sauce, and chicken marsala. You can enjoy all of Portugal's magnificent atmospheres without leaving the premises.

                                                                                                      Sol Mar is a fantastic restaurant! The food was delicious, and the portions were huge. You'll definitely have leftovers for lunch the next day. A lot of the entrees could be shared between two people. The servers were friendly and service was great. I'd definitely eat there again next time I'm in Newark.

                                                                                                      We’ve been coming here for years and bring our friends also. We were a party of 6. The waitstaff was very accommodating. Very helpful and spoke English as some of our party were English speaking only. I’m the only vegetarian at the table. I had beans, rice and vegetables. Very tasty. There’s also a vegetable paella. We thoroughly enjoyed it as always. Highly recommend it. The owner visited the table which is a nice touch.

                                                                                                      We had reservations at 8pm on Valentine’s Day. Open table took down my credit card to charge $40 for no shows. We got there at 8pm to a throng of people waiting. We waited in the hallway with everyone else and were not seated until 9pm. The waiting area was freezing and the room we booked was not available so we were seated in another less desirable room. The food was good if you’re into seafood, but the steak was disappointing.

                                                                                                      Great service and atmosphere. Experienced staff. Average food and Sangria. Not all rooms are same. Luckily we got one of the better rooms. Large service area but broken up into rooms.

                                                                                                      Sol Mar was wonderful! Definitely packed on Valentine’s Day. The food was good, could’ve used a bit more salt and some more sauce, but was still yummy. Desserts were absolutely delicious and the sangria was to die for! The servers were great and attentive despite the busy night. The atmosphere was very warm and we loved the decor. We will definitely be coming back!
