Food and service South of Nick’s (SN) is very good. While not as busy as adjacent Nick’s, I’m happy we chose SN as our first experience with the Nick restaurants. The trio of salsas were tasty, each different from each other. The chips were salted and warm. The drinks were flavorful and just the right amount to enjoy the date night. My wife got the Tacos Del Mar, ahi and she enjoyed them along with the black beans. I had the traditional carnitas, a generous portion. The surprise hit was the rice with my dish, being perhaps one of the best red rices we’ve had at a restaurant in a long while. Not dry, nice texture, and overall good flavor. The chocolate chip cake served for her birthday was excellent. Just the right amount of chocolate to end the meal. We were satisfied and happy and will try standard Nicks in the future.

We come here a lot and always have great service. Today was terrible. We had to flag down the manager to order after waiting for 20 minutes. 10 minutes later our sever wanted to take our order and we told him we already placed it. It didn’t phase him. My husband had to ask for water because he never received any and we waited forever for the check. We will come back because this isn’t typical. It was New Year’s Day but the restaurant was dead.

Everything about South of Nick’s is amazing. The waitstaff was beyond friendly. They gave great information and suggestions. Because of that, I had an amazing margarita (The Tamarindo!) and delicious meal. My husband and I are already talking about our next visit!

Was expecting a lot more in flavor but all of our dishes were just ok. We had the taquitos for a starter, the birria tacos, birria enchiladas, and the sea bass as entrees.

Met an old friend for lunch. Our server, Paul provided the best service imaginable. He was so attentive and gave great suggestions. He is so knowledgeable and personable. He will be the reason we go back. The food was fantastic too!! Thank you!!!

The service was outstanding! We could not get enough of the queso fundido. They kept bringing us chips, so we were quite full by the time our main entree arrived. Either way, the food was very good, as always and we enjoyed the music. The only downside, if there was any, was that it was too cold inside so a lot of us around the restaurant kept our jackets on.

Really an excellent meal. Fantastic chips and salsa. Tacos were amazing as was the seafood Chili Relano. Crazy good and fast service. Nice shopping right outside the restaurant.

Outstanding meal!! The taquitos were the best I’ve ever had. Impeccable service, our server and all other staff were very attentive. 10/10 recommend, I will be back!

South of Nick’s for Christmas Eve was excellent as it usually is throughout the year. Food was delicious, and service was outstanding from start to finish. It is one of San Diego’s finest Mexican restaurants!

We have eaten here several times in the past and it was outstanding. We decided to make a reservation for Christmas Eve for a late lunch. First of all, the parking was $5 to park in front of the restaurant for some reason, not sure if this is new or just because of the number of shoppers at the mall. We were disappointed there weren't any Christmas decorations in the restaurant, and the music was loud, Latin music and not very appealing, no Christmas music? I think most people enjoy some sign of Christmas in a restaurant, especially on Christmas Eve! I ordered the skinny margarita and it was so full of ice, I took 4 sips and it was gone! This was a $16 drink. I let the waiter and the trainee know and they brought me a new one on the house, which was greatly appreciated. Our food was good, but the beer my friend ordered (Dos XX) was flat, and we didn't want to look too picky so he just didn't drink it. We are regular Nick's diners, and I have to say this meal was a huge disappointment. I normally give great reviews, but we just didn't have a good meal or experience here today.
