A traditional country pub with a warm welcome, The Anchor Inn offers a fine selection of cask ales and fresh, home-cooked food. Set in the beautiful village of Nayland, open fires and a cosy atmosphere make the Anchor a wonderful winter bolthole, and the banks of the River Stour provide glorious al fresco dining throughout the summer months.

    Superb! We visited for Sunday lunch after a walk around Nayland. Welcome was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere warm and lively, but not too much. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and generous. Perfectly cooked roasts (we had beef & pork) with potatoes, lovely veg and, of course, yorkshires. Best of all, the chef made dairy free ones for my lactose intolerant husband so he didn't have to miss out, a rare event! Would definitely recommend a visit.

    We were warmly welcomed and had great service, however the vegetarian main dish was not very nice at all it was meant to be an aubergine dish but the whole thing was just wet and sloppy. We didn’t complain to the staff as we didn’t want to spoil our evening as this was a gift from family for our silver wedding anniversary.

    Our table upstairs was spacious and not too near neighbouring diners. A speaker near us meant the music was a bit too loud but the friendly waitress turned it down as soon as I asked. The new Prix Fixe menu was quite different from last week, but our choices were delicious.

    The 3 course set menu is not only delicious but such good value and definitely recommend it. So lovely and welcoming with a log fire and candles on the table just what you want on a grey cold day.

    Superb location winter or summer. Food is tasty and plentiful. A great choice for drinks and food. Had a perfect table right by the log fire. Look forward to our next visit.

    Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was very good and the service was excellent. We were all very impressed and looking forward to returning.
