A traditional country pub with a warm welcome, The Anchor Inn offers a fine selection of cask ales and fresh, home-cooked food. Set in the beautiful village of Nayland, open fires and a cosy atmosphere make the Anchor a wonderful winter bolthole, and the banks of the River Stour provide glorious al fresco dining throughout the summer months.

    The price of the food don't match the quality, also the part of the restaurant/bar we eat in was dull and had no feel to it. I've had better meals at brewers fair or green king pubs.

    The food was fine, although the menu was rather limited. Unfortunately the table was in a very busy noisy/rowdy bar area with lots of locals drinking and watching football on the TV, which completely ruined the ambience for what was meant to be a romantic meal for my wife's birthday.

    Setting beautiful along the river where we walked the dog before eating. Staff were attentive, professional, friendly and extremely helpful and made our dog Maggie very welcome. Food was well presented and delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

    Brilliant. Fantastic roast, great portions, good option of sides. Tasty deserts and good service. Beautiful location with walks all around. Perfect on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

    Gorgeous as always! Food and service is amazing, shame they didn't have all of the tables out but the sun has only just come out in Colchester!

    I have eaten at the Anchor Inn a number of times and have never written a review but compelled to write this time due to the outstanding service and great food. If you want to eat at a friendly, cozy beautiful location that is a great mix between village local and gastro pub then the Anchor is your spot. Stop in for a beer and a packet of crisps or a three course gastro meal accompanied by a glass of wine there is something for us all. I love this place!

    Superb! We visited for Sunday lunch after a walk around Nayland. Welcome was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere warm and lively, but not too much. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and generous. Perfectly cooked roasts (we had beef & pork) with potatoes, lovely veg and, of course, yorkshires. Best of all, the chef made dairy free ones for my lactose intolerant husband so he didn't have to miss out, a rare event! Would definitely recommend a visit.
