The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London.

Today, Mike Pope and his team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. Serving a rustic menu packed with pub classics and other items such as freshly baked pizzas, we have something for everyone to enjoy. With the rural splendour of Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Mid Wales on the doorstep, there's plenty to discover!

    Have been several times before so know food is good even if portions too large to eat. On this occasion the service was very poor. Also bill very high for what had. Think there was probably an error on it but having asked for it three times, time was getting on so asked for it at bar, paid and left.

    Another lovely meal at The Batemans. A cold night but the pub was warm and welcoming. Menu has a good choice and a specials board too. Sausage and mash and Chicken and Ham pie were delicious.

    Really nice meal. Gammon and a mixed grill. Good size portions, food hot and served in a reasonable time too. My only gripe is that they do not take cash, which if it were Covid still I would get but not anymore. Lucky we had a credit card with us!

    4 of us decided to try the Bateman Arms as we had heard the food was very good!! All 4 of us agree that the food is Very good and we will definitely be going back again 👍

    Portions are generous, food is hot. Good menu selection and good specials board. Staff are polite and efficient. There is an automatic 10% service charge added to the bill, but they tell you. It is well worth it.

    The service by the young staff was great! They really made an effort to make you feel welcome. We had steak, asked for it well done but it was pink and bleeding so asked for it to be cooked a little more and it came out exactly the same and even after the 2nd time of asking it wasn’t any different so i had to leave it but still got charged full price even though the chef could not do a well done steak after 3 attempts. Serving staff were great though
