Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

    We had a brilliant time at Cut and Craft. The food was delicious and Giulia was so attentive. A great end to a lovely break in York.

    We just enjoyed the most amazing Sunday lunch sharing platter comprising of beef, chicken and pork belly at the Cut and Craft. So delicious, we couldn’t recommend this enough… serving staff and ambience were fantastic too!

    Went for brunch on 23/02. Everything was great. The service was friendly without being intrusive and the atmosphere was good. The food was lovely, and good value. The window seat was an added bonus.

    This is the 2nd time we’ve visited Cut and Craft in York. No sooner had we sat down for our 6pm booking we were asked for our orders, luckily we’d already looked at the menu prior to arriving. Our starter came out no less than five minutes after we’d placed our orders which we thought was too quick. Once we’d finished our starter and our plates had been taken away, I hadn’t even had time to take a sip of my drink before our mains had arrived. The food as we know from the previous occasion is amazing however, we were unable to enjoy due to the speed of turn around of our meals and lack of time to digest. This caused good food to be left and wasted. In addition, we were interrupted on numerous occasions by different members of staff to ask us if our meals were okay then a separate member to ask if we would like our drinks replenishing. All in all we would be slow to recommend in the future as we felt overall we were in and out to ensure a table was ready to make further money on.

    The food was nice however I can’t stand going to a restaurant, ordering and the food arriving within 10 minutes… which is exactly what happened. I appreciate they want to get you in and out but we sat down at 4pm, drinks arrived at 5 past and food arrived at 10 past.. it just seemed so rushed. Unfortunately I am complaining at being made to feel like it was more of a fast food joint, the food obviously didn’t reflect that and was tasty but such a shame we didn’t feel we could enjoy the atmosphere and drinks before food arrived. We were in and out within 50 minutes. Crazy!

    I thought the venue was very nice and the staff were very helpful and attentive. I could not fault the service or the setting. I did however think the food was very big standard and shouldn’t be for the prices. High prices for average quality meals lets this place down in my humble opinion
