Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

    Had a fabulous dining experience for my fathers 70th, the decor of the building is beautiful. The servers attentive but respectful, quality of food extremely high, will return.

    Disappointed, given the reputation and price! Starters were good, but when the mains came out, most were cold and had to be re-done. Fillet steak came out very crispy almost burnt around edges, replacement much better but took a long time and most of the table had already finished. The food was also mis-distributed and meant each person didn’t get what they ordered in terms of how the steaks were cooked. Steaks were quite good but standard not as high as price warrants, some a bit chewy.

    This restaurant stands head and shoulders above the majority. The environment and ambience truly add to the experience. The service is excellent - attentive but not too much. Staff are highly trained and care! Food quality was superb and the portions just right. Will be returning!

    Book table for two at 16.30 hrs. At 18.10 hrs (immediately after finished desert) we were brought our bill. This was not requested, as we planned to have another drink (or two) We paid the bill and left, as we looked back our table had already been cleaned and joined other tables to accommodate a larger party. Felt rushed and spoiled our 1st visit to cut and craft

    We were not shown to our table until 30 mins after our reservation. The staff were very apologetic and we got a free glass of Prosecco once at our table so good service recovery. What would have made it given better was to have that whilst we were waiting and with the menu. Staff generally very good and food was fine. Would not go back I doubt.
