   You can’t criticise the quality and tastiness of the cooking at The Duke (although the cod with clams was over salty) and the interiors are smart and sleek, but the format of the menu just doesn’t really work. The combination of snack, small plates and large plates all providing the hunt of shareable dishes but presented more like traditional courses and not really large enough to share anyhow makes both group and individual dining tricky. The menu is also much too red meat heavy for the modern age with very few vegan or veggie options. 35% full on a Saturday night also doesn’t make for a buzzy atmosphere they are aiming for and sadly doesn’t bode well for Tge Duke’s prospects. A shame because they do have an excellent chef and it’s a brave an original venture.

   Amazing food - tapas and sharing dishes with a twist. Very creative and beautifully presented. Great service and ambience. Will go back to try their Sunday roasts next!

   Excellent staff, delicious cocktails and incredible food, we pretty much ate the entire menu. Everything was cooked and served to perfection We will be back and soon Dog friendly and lovely ambience, such a lovely local. The husband wanted the Sunday lunch and trimmings and the stepdaughter and I wanted the sashimi cracker - it’s a thing of beauty and less heavy bites. The Caesar salad was sensational

   Great evening, lovely food and attentive service, ambience ++. 4plates 2 glasses of wine each, just under £50.00 a head. We will go again

   We asked 2 waitresses for our main course to come out 10 mins after starters to give us a break between courses, this did not happen, although we were told this wasn’t a problem at all. The main course arrived whilst eating starters. We spoke to the waiter and explained what we had requested, the reply was well what am I supposed to do with this fish then? (Helpful!) The lemon sole arrived after about 1/2 an hour, drenched in lemon juice, completely over powered the fish. Made this dish hard to eat. As for the triple cooked chips, they were covered in a black garlic sauce, they looked like they had been covered in black syrup. Absolutely awful and inedible. Sadly our first trip there was a bit of a disaster. Also sitting by the back doors is freezing when you constantly have people going in and out to smoke and they don’t close the doors behind them. For a £200 meal I would have expected better than this!

   Great food, but wrong concept. Tapas idea. However, chips came after the meal. Our friends had finished their main meal and we were still waiting.

   Small informal business dinner which I booked for one of my managers. She said the food was great, but what she did comment on that the service was much better than her previous visit about a six weeks prior.
