Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Northern Italy, The Fat Ox brings a taste of the Italian Alps to our guests. Our name, "Fat Ox," pays homage to the robust flavors and hearty dishes found in Northern Italian cuisine. Symbolizing strength, endurance, and the bounty of the land, it reflects our commitment to serving exceptional meals crafted from the finest ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible and prepared with care & expertise. Our view for our guests is: We just want to have fun!

Brunch 10am-2pm
Apertivo 2pm-4pm (only food menu available during this time, unavailable December 31st)

    Very impressed with your visit to The Fat Ox. We didn't plan specifically to be there for happy hour but we took advantage of the small plates menu and ordered seven or eight different items. We thoroughly enjoyed all, the shrimp scampi dish, and the gorgonzola gnocchi were our favorites. Service was great, atmosphere was great, all in all we were very happy.

    The food was very good but I can’t say the same thing about the service. We made a reservation for 9:30pm and they called us to change it for 9:15pm which is ok. But as soon as we got there we could tell the server was ready for us to eat and go. We felt we couldn’t even enjoy the moment. She even started to pick up the plates before everybody was finished. I even said he is still working on it. Not even a fast food place does that. I would think about it twice before recommending or going back. Our server didn’t even offer the dessert menu, she directly offered the bill, we had to ask for it. Like I said food was good but after even seeing the server “celebrating” with other staff that we (the last table) after only being there 30 minutes was too much.

    Absolutely love this restaurant, we have been twice in the past 2 months, and plan to visit everytime we spend a weekend in Banff. Love the food, atmosphere, and service!!

    Went here to celebrate our 35 wedding anniversary. They were so attentive and sweet. Wished us a happy anniversary when we walked in. Gave us a complimentary drink. The food and service was excellent. Great atmosphere in the restaurant. Would recommend and definitely return again. .

    The best dinner in all of Canada. I travel a lot but I haven’t seen such good food and such a good restaurant decor yet. I am surprised by the level of service and the quality of everything. The prices are very handsome :)

    Fairly quite on a Monday evening for dinner. Our appetizers were delicious and portions very generous. My husband had the short ribs for his entree and although it was very tasty, the meat was tough. Our server had his meal replaced with another choice from the menu which was delicious, and we were not charged for his entree. My bison tagliatelle was wonderful. We were too full to enjoy any desserts sadly.

    The food was absolutely fantastic. We told ourselves we wouldn’t do Italian in Banff as that’s so popular by us in the states but the menu looked unique enough to give it a shot. And it did not disappoint. The venison carpaccio and bison tagliatelle were delicious - highly recommend. As was my husbands braised beef ravioli. The vibes in there were great too—good ambiance and service.

    Service was top tier. Our waitress was very efficient and knowledgeable of Banff. The food was excellent. Winter bruschetta was amazing, best we’ve had. Great playlist of music in the background. Beautiful restaurant. We had breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. Will be back!

    We very much enjoyed our supper here. We brought our 4 month old and the staff were so accommodating to make sure we had space for the stroller. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! We had the gnocchi dish and the braised beef ravioli, would definitely order these again and we look forward to visiting again!
