Inspired by the diners of the northeast, whose menu had a little bit of everything and was heavily influenced by Greek cuisine—because, let’s face it, the majority were owned by Greek immigrants—the menu’s attractiveness was the diversity in its offerings. From Italian specialties to delicatessen classics, there were no rules or borders regarding types of cuisine, just a variety of options that have left many transplants and generations longing for just a glimpse of what once was.

An eclectic revolving menu of home-style specials, comfort food, fun spins on classics with beer and future spirit pairings, and an extensive wine list make The Food Republic a foodie’s paradise where comfort and a feeling of belonging are our mission.

Warm wood tones, deep, comfortable benches, and an array of worldly and whimsical art welcome you while our oversized tables encourage sharing and enjoying the moment and the company as much as our menu offerings.

    Overall such a disappointment. The food was awful. The fish and chips had inedible fish that was overly coated in batter. My steak frites had tough, tasteless meat with delicious French fries. French fries were the highlight of the evening! If you like French fries in an awkward dining room this is your spot. I will not be back here.

    The people there are amazing always looking to see if we are OK. The food is what you would expect from an establishment of this type and caliber. By far one the beat in the area.

    The food was delicious. Best Shrimp and Grits. The sangria really hit today. Service was great. Love this place. My new favorite restaurant in Fort Lauderdale

    First time diners, but won’t be the last. We were greeted and seated promptly, with an Open Table reservation for 12:30 pm. We ordered two glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon and the wine was very good. For lunch we ordered the southern Fried chicken and a Shrimp Po Boy. Both were excellent. The fried chicken came with 5 large pieces of crispy fried chicken, a full ear of corn on the cob, a delicious piece of corn bread, with a ginormous crock of Mac and cheese. All beyond succulent and excellent. The Po Boy came with a large portion of shrimp on a large crusty fresh roll and a spicy sauce it was served with a large side of interesting French fries that were dark in color. We never saw French fries like this, but they were very crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Just excellent! Our water was topped off during the meal. The owner Alonso and his wife Nicole, the chef checked in with us during our meal. The server was very good, but we didn’t remember his name. We were way too full for dessert, but will try to save room for next time. We left with generous leftovers based on huge servings! The location is Gateway plaza and Sunrise Blvd. The shopping mall was very active and parking was tight at noon on Friday. The experience was the best and the music was very conducive for a relaxing lunch.

    My second visit and never disappointed. The food - which is fabulous - is only outshined by the service. Casual, delicious, & relaxing. Never rushed and doted on by entire staff. So glad I live nearby.
