As a quick note to customers we would like to inform you that all of our reservable outdoor tables are under cover and have heating. Also standard seating is indoor seating.
Proprietor Nicholas Drillsma and partner Sandy Barton have built an enviable reputation over the past 28 years in producing the highest quality, locally sourced food, complimented by an extensive wine list.
The menus reflect our customer profile in delivering quality food and service in a cosy, quintessentially English public house.

Great food - we will come back. It's a traditional English pub with classic low ceilings. We were here on a rainy January day, but would also be lovely in the summer with plenty of tables outside.

Very disappointed. As soon as we sat we were told that we should return the table at 2:20pm which would have only been achievable if the staff had cleared out our starters and main courses in a timely manner. Empty plates stayed on the table for a while so we did not get the chance to order desserts or coffees. We were given the bill and told to leave. If you do two seatings it should allow enough time for guests to have an enjoyable experience and not be rushed out. Sadly, it was our first time there and we won't return. The restaurant is also very small and there is not much space to move around when people are waiting at the bar.

Hello Anne and thank you for taking the trouble to leave your review. You will see from our other countless reviews that your experience is very much in the minority but, for the benefit of our readers, I need to note for a balanced view that you were in fact late for your table reservation which caused your dissatisfaction. You arrived at 12.51, some 20 minutes late.

Lovely dog friendly pub. Very cosy and inviting, all the staff were extremely accommodating and welcoming. The menu consisted of pub classics and many delicious unique dishes like beef cheek bourguignon. All the food in the pub smelt amazing to be honest. Would definitely visit again.

An excellent New Year's Eve dinner, expertly prepared and served. A small BUT though. Two of our party ordered the risotto and I regret to advise that it simply did not work. Too many flavours mixed up (chestnuts/mushrooms, garlic etc) and it did not really 'harmonise'. Other dishes (pie and fish) were excellent. Keep up the good work....

This is a lovely, historic pub with excellent staff. However, it is small and, whilst we had booked a table to eat, lots of people crowded in for a drink which meant we felt very overlooked at our table. This is in no way the fault of the staff , but some people were really inconsiderate of encroaching our space which did detract from the experience. So, service, food and value were great but some other customers did impact our overall enjoyment of our family get together
