The Independent is an ingredient-driven, seafood restaurant and raw bar showcasing the Lowcountry's surrounding local fisherman, farmers, and purveyors. Located on historic Front Street, the restaurant pays homage to the community's former, yet iconic seafood market by the same name, with a seasonal menu of Southern-inspired dishes guided by the region's bounty of fresh seafood.

We had a fabulous Father’s Day brunch Sunday. Starting with the Independent crab dip with house made rosemary focaccia bread. Then the chef sent out complimentary deviled eggs w/smoked trout roe. PERFECTION. Next we got our entry’s. A perfectly cooked smash burger with crispy French fries and the special which was grilled flat iron steak and eggs. The steak was ordered medium rare and was cooked perfectly and very tender. I loved the house made B-2 steak sauce. We concluded our very enjoyable meal with their famous mile high key lime pie with the table side torching of the meringue. Finally our server Ruthie gave us wonderful personal attention. We enjoyed talking with her a couple of times and what stood out was how much she enjoyed working at the Independent.

Food was great……service was good…..the game changer was the amount of time it took to get food out to table…..we knew it was Father’s Day but with that said I would think staff would have been beefed up a little. We waited and waited for our food….perhaps….free mimosas could have been served or muffins? We will be back love the ambiance it is a lovely addition to Georgetown!

Crowded and tight to be able to move around. Noise level was high. Better to go after 8pm as it clears out and it’s much more quiet Pork chops were tasty but dry..not juicy. My life said the she crab soup was not to her liking because it was missing the taste of sherry. My blackened local catch was really good.. The best part was the service of Natasha.

Fabulous 70th Birthday celebration! Greeted at the door, bouquet of flowers on the table with a card signed by the staff. Champagne toast and a birthday dessert! The food was outstanding! You made my birthday very special for all of us! Thank you so much! We will be back soon!

Our server, Katie, was so kind and attentive. We appreciated her menu suggestions. She made our anniversary dinner extra special. I’m so embarrassed that we forgot to take home the flowers and card. We were so focused on not forgetting our umbrella and take out.

We had reservations and our table was ready on time! Every person from the hostesses, our server and the bus staff were very friendly and helpful. We got deviled eggs, crab fingers and cornbread as appetizers and shrimp and grits for our entrees and everything was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Taylor was excellent server, food was good and served with appropriate temperature. Our party included a toddler who was easily accommodated. Nice, relaxed atmosphere with attentive service.

We loved everything about this place! We were there for my mother in law’s 75th birthday. They Made it so special. When we arrived a bit early, our table was ready with a birthday card signed by the staff and a beautiful flower arrangement for her on the table. The food and beverages were fantastic! And the service was top notch! We love this place. Thank you so much.

Our visit stay at The George Hotel and our first visit to The Independent. The food was excellent. Started with Southern Cornbread as an appetizer - it was delicious. I had scallops with mushrooms and boc choy (not my personal favorite, but it was good). We added whipped potatoes as a side and they were delicious. Diane has drum fish and rice and it was delicious - she highly recommends that. A nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. For dessert, we had strawberry and rhubarb crumble - delicious als.o. The highlight was our server Sean. He made the entire visit great. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. He was attentive but not a problem. We enjoyed talking with him. A great dining experience. And a marvelous hotel.
