The Independent is an ingredient-driven, seafood restaurant and raw bar showcasing the Lowcountry's surrounding local fisherman, farmers, and purveyors. Located on historic Front Street, the restaurant pays homage to the community's former, yet iconic seafood market by the same name, with a seasonal menu of Southern-inspired dishes guided by the region's bounty of fresh seafood.

We had reservations and our table was ready on time! Every person from the hostesses, our server and the bus staff were very friendly and helpful. We got deviled eggs, crab fingers and cornbread as appetizers and shrimp and grits for our entrees and everything was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Taylor was excellent server, food was good and served with appropriate temperature. Our party included a toddler who was easily accommodated. Nice, relaxed atmosphere with attentive service.

We loved everything about this place! We were there for my mother in law’s 75th birthday. They Made it so special. When we arrived a bit early, our table was ready with a birthday card signed by the staff and a beautiful flower arrangement for her on the table. The food and beverages were fantastic! And the service was top notch! We love this place. Thank you so much.

Our visit stay at The George Hotel and our first visit to The Independent. The food was excellent. Started with Southern Cornbread as an appetizer - it was delicious. I had scallops with mushrooms and boc choy (not my personal favorite, but it was good). We added whipped potatoes as a side and they were delicious. Diane has drum fish and rice and it was delicious - she highly recommends that. A nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. For dessert, we had strawberry and rhubarb crumble - delicious als.o. The highlight was our server Sean. He made the entire visit great. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. He was attentive but not a problem. We enjoyed talking with him. A great dining experience. And a marvelous hotel.

Hunter our server extraordinaire made the evening he was amazing. Everything he recommended was absolutely fantastic the service was over the top five star thanks to Hunter. The cocktails were very well mixed by bartender we had a bottle of wonderful Greek wine finished with French press coffee wonderful desserts. We look forward to seeing Hunter next year same time same place God bless the i Independent. Kindest regards Chris and Brenda Moss

One of our friends had recommended The Independent for brunch with visiting family. The food was AMAZING!! We had sweet Taylor as our server and she was a joy. My husband does not like Brussels sprouts but the way they were prepared had him fighting me for them. Giant order so plan on sharing. The table split deviled eggs with roe as an appetizer and they were also delicious. My main course was avocado toast and honestly I didn’t eat anything else the rest of the day. I would definitely recommend The Independent for a lovely meal out.

Our experience was very nice. We were celebrating an anniversary. We were given a personalized card and a vase of flowers. That was totally unexpected. The waiter was very nice and the food excellent. Oysters on the half shell were exceptional.

I absolutely adore The George, and I’ve dined several times at The Independent. The ambience is great, the staff is delightful, but their food game is lacking. I keep hoping it will get better, but it seems to go in the other direction. I might have to give up!
