North Scottsdale’s heart beats to a Latin drum at The Mission at Kierland Commons where renowned Chef Matt Carter (Zinc Bistro and Fat Ox) brings a modern twist to Latin cuisine blending influences from Spain, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Sip a signature margarita with unique flavors such as cucumber jalepeno or aguacate (yes, we said avocado) as you watch your Tableside Guacamole made to your taste from more than a dozen fresh ingredients.

Home made tortillas, sauces, and salsas are made fresh daily to accompany an assortment of meats and seafood prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor. Plus save room for dessert including our pumpkin bread pudding or espresso churros.

The food was below average. It was very saucy, unnecessarily. Many competing and unnecessary sauces per dish adding calories, sodium and sugar and drowning the flavor of the food. Would you like some food with your buffet of sauces? Portions were very small for the price. Service lacked. The wait for every request was long. Ambience was exceptional. Drinks were good.

Duck empanadas, skewered shrimp appetizer and scallop entrees were unbelievably delicious, all with unique spices and sauces. I will probably want to eat here every week.

Guac and salsa was very good. Empanadas and carnitas tacos were very sweet with odd maple syrup taste. Would not recommend- odd flavors.

We sat outside the wait Staff was professional and kind. Had gordita starter, the steak, mahi-mahi, and pork tacos, and a side of brussels sprouts. All tasted great as did beer, wine and margaritas.

Enjoyed the experience over all. However, was surprised by the taco size and lack of ingredients that normally come with a street type taco. The Duck Peruvian Rice and Street corn were delicious. The margaritas were special as well.

Although the restaurant was very busy, our server took good care of us. He was amazing! We were celebrating a birthday tonight and he brought a sparkling candle! The food was delicious, great portions, and perfect guacamole! The bread pudding is super tasty! Nice ambience. Thank you The Mission!

We were there for lunch, arrived early and restaurant was pretty empty. Took server awhile to come to table. Had the corn and guacamole appetizers, both very good, however, no chips, just when I was looking for our server, she finally arrived with our drinks and chips. keep in mind the corn is served warm. My Cuban was not good, whatever bread they use fell apart, had to use a fork and knife, ingredients were falling out of the bread, not very tasty either. My son had the fish taco, said it was ok. Husband had the posole, very small portion, said it also was just ok. Server gave us the check, never asked if we wanted dessert. There were at least 2 birds flying around the restaurant, I like birds but not inside, not healthy. Sorry, I was really looking forward to eating here, won't be back. My son was in from Atlanta, is in the food business so I was a little embarrassed since I thought this place was popular.
