Located on the grounds of Strawbery Banke Museum in historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire, The Puddle Dock Restaurant proudly offers Modern Colonial feel and fare! Led by esteemed Executive Chef Derek Clough, the Puddle Dock Restaurant will take you back to Colonial America featuring English and American favorites, then snap you back to the present with our modern twists.

Chef Derek takes great pride in growing a lot of our vegetables, foraging our mushrooms, and presenting beauty for your palate. His care is evidence in some of our best-loved dishes, Yorkshire Pudding, Portuguese Salted Cod, Pan-Roasted Duck Breast, and our signature Hoe Cake. Be sure to save room for dessert! All our desserts are made in house - Cinnamon Rum Breading, Dark Chocolate Pudding, and Posset are among the favorites!

Enjoy the ambience of our historic exposed beam building, once a general store offering penny candy, or enjoy our front and rear patios for dinner in the open air.

    Wonderful experience We chose to sit at the bar with Michela the bartender. She was very knowledgeable and helpfed us make great decisions on our app and meals. She was very pleasant to chat with as well when she was not busy servicing the restaurant or others at the bar. The place is beautiful and smelled marvelous from the moment we entered. Highly recommend as it is a very special place.

    Last night we celebrated our wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time. The menu selection was excellent. Each of the four of us found exactly what we were looking for. We all raved about our meals and thoroughly enjoyed the muscles! Our server, Maddie did a terrific job in taking great care of us. Already looking forward to returning.

    We had another stand out dining experience at Puddle Dock. We were a party of four and tried two new appetizers for us, the cheeseboard and the foie gras. The cheese board was a perfect portion for two - plenty of cheese, nuts, apricots, quince, and sweetened onion preserve. The triple cream cheese itself was nicely textured and very rich. The foie gras was seared just the way it should be, served on a half waffle (unique in our experience) with sauces that didn’t overwhelm the delicacy of the liver. Entrees were two each of the duck breast and trout. Portion sizes were very satisfying and the meats were well prepared and not overdone. We had two desserts, a delicate Pavlov and a robust dark chocolate pudding. Our server Eleanor struck a nice balance between professionalism and hospitality. She was quite a lot of fun to talk to. The only disappointing part of the meal was the Manhattan cocktails, which arrived with about 1/2 the portion size we would have expected even in a restaurant like Puddle Dock that serves measured pours. Our overall experience was terrific, and we recommend anyone considering Puddle Dock to do themselves a favor and take the plunge. You’ll be glad you did.

    Celebrated my wife's birthday at The Puddle Dock - it's always so wonderful there - one of our favorite places. Tried the Pan Seared Scottish Trout! OMG - it came out looking like salmon, it was VERY similar to salmon and DELICIOUS. We both got the chowder, because it's always so good. She went with crispy chicken again and it never disappoints. Strawberry shortcake was on the dessert menu and was AMAZING - it was served on this large almond pastry biscuit. Her drink (Woodford Reserve) was perfect; there was a birthday card on the table which was so great, BUT, all this being said - - David F (our server) made the evening very special. He is so wonderful - request him if you can. We always have great servers here, but he was fun, and it was such a lovely evening!

    Fantastic food and experience. Staff was kind and professional. The Yorkshire pudding and Sea Scallops were top notch. Worth every Penny and the venue is very special.
