As you would expect from a restaurant nestled on the coast of Northumberland, we have cast out the net when it comes to freshly caught local seafood. Our emphasis on local produce and ingredients doesn’t stop on the shoreline. Join us on Thursday 13th March for a very special seafood tasting event. Enjoy a specially designed five-course tasting menu, that showcases the delicate flavours of the sea - a true celebration of our local seafood! For this event, we are delighted to have partnered with Hatch Mansfield, known for their premium wines from independent, family-owned producers. Each course will be paired with a carefully chosen wine to enhance the smells, tastes and flavours to match each course. Bookings are available from 4:30 pm.

Absolutely fabulous. We had been craving a great meal out for a long time and it was such a treat to be able to bring our dog with us. Took some stress out of trying to sort him out for the evening! And then to have an amazing dinner with food that was expertly prepared and presented was just ideal. Super friendly service and so relaxed and enjoyable. Will certainly come again and will definitely recommend to others.

We ate in the bar. Fish and chips and the burger. Both were outstanding. Fish and chips were on offer at £10 - so fresh and excellent value for money. Service was great. Highly recommend

Very disappointed with our dining experience. We had shocking service from the moment we we taken to our table, long list of things but to just name a few, constantly had to ask for things such as soup spoon bread plate to take away our menus after we ordered and not once were we asked if we needed any further drinks etc.. Food was not great, some examples my chowder was tasteless, no fish in it just large lumps of hard potatoes. Venison pie was burnt! carrot on the side was cremated. There are plenty more of negatives from our meal at the Whittling House, would unfortunately not return or recommend.

The Winter offer for fish and chips is wonderful . It is great value, and the staff are so friendly that it makes it a great dining lunchtime experience.The Whittling decor and ambience is lovely and there are areas specifically for our four legged friends , so if you’d like to eat without them then you’re also ok! 🥰

Don’t order a starter! The mains are huge and delicious. Great value. Venison pie is sublime.

Great Sunday dinner, really attentive staff who were very friendly and all took interest in us and our dogs, which were very very welcome.

Sunday lunchtime birthday meal for 6 , with two children . It was busy but warm and welcoming . Children’s menus brought first- a plus point and had good variety and willing to modify . Adult starters of chowder, hot and cold trout and scallops were all excellent but chowder / bread is very filling! All had Sunday lunch, beef, lamb and pork between us. Perfectly cooked with good variety of fresh vegetables and large Yorkshire puddings . Only children had dessert , ice cream or sorbet . Both passed ! Service was excellent , quick and friendly young ladies . All very enjoyable . We’ll be back for an evening dinner for two as we live locally . Highly recommend

Very friendly greeting on arrival and rapid solution to correct a booking snafu. Room was excellent with exceptional facilities of high quality. Bar staff made very acceptable recommendations re local drinks Food and wines were superb and portion sizes more than adequate. The 'smiley' staff were exceptional right through to the breakfast cook. Altogether a great experience and we will certainly be urging friends to share the adventure

Second visit here. Restaurant was quiet for a Friday night. Staff were attentive and helpful with wine choice. Nice feel to the place and quite calm as not busy - we could talk to each other across the table! Starters were fine - the cheese souffle could have had a bit more taste but the chowder and arancini were very good. Mains were also fine - chicken burger a bit dry but beef burgers were good. Vegetable tart was a bit dry and had too much rocket on it. Wine was very good and 0% cider and IPA also good. Didn't have dessert but coffee was good.
