You’ve never seen anything like this extravagantly decorated tiki-bar funhouse from Tatsu
Aikawa and the team behind Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Kemuri Tatsu-Ya and dipdipdip Tatsu-Ya.

Recently named one of the 40 best bars in Austin by Statesman critic Matthew Odam, Tiki
Tatsu-Ya is disguised by a fake travel company on the outside, but stepping in, you’re
immediately transported to another world. The riotous colors, sound effects and over-the-top
tropical cocktails in custom mugs and glasses feel like an island vacation or 21+ Disneyland.
Shareable drinks come with fire shows, and even the food far surpasses typical bar fare with
mouthwatering dishes like Spam Musubi, Crab Lagoon, Kalua Pork and the Pu Pu Platter, which
shouldn’t be missed. Reservations are recommended.

Is it like dining inside of the Legends of the Hidden Temple set? Totally. But is the food and drink great? Absolutely. Aesthetically it feels like an unserious tourist trap in a b-list beach town and believe it or not I mean that as a complement. It is kitschy and fun and deeply committed to the theme. The food and beverage, however, is seriously good. We have not had a bad - or even mediocre - bite or sip over the several times we’ve been. It somehow also manages to be pretty fairly priced compared to the rest of the prestige Austin dining scene. We will be back.

Two of our party arrived directly on time and we were seated by a host with 5 star service we had one person trying to park and that did take 10-15 minutes. By the time our 3rd arrived our service was obviously going to change. We allowed the service to take a serious dive but said we were going to have a good time no matter what. our server and the bartender seemed to have a lot of attitude towards us and we weren’t sure why. We ordered the sos and by the time it arrived at our table the “show” was over, we didn’t understand that at all. Also our server could have explained the drink a little and said we needed to pass the bowl or all stand and drink due to the size and shape of the drink. We figured it out on our own. I’ve dined down in the cave with absolutely 5 star service and nothing but an amazing experience and tonight we were in nest and it was an obvious difference. This was our second time coming and our first time bringing our best friend he had really been wanting to have the experience. The drinks were absolutely delicious and so were the pork lettuce wraps. In the end we had a good time but because we chose to honestly we almost left when the bar tender and server we obviously teaching us a lesson for having 1 person be 10 min late. Felt like a little kid put in time out.

This is the second time I’ve been to Tiki Tatsuya. This place is so fun, very much like Rainforest Café, but for adults. The vintage tiki drinks were amazing, love how the lights and sound effects change when someone orders a specialty drink. There is so much to look at absolutely love this place! Would recommend if you love tiki bars!

The ambiance is another level- when you walk in it smells amazing- the lighting- the music- the audiobook playing in the restroom- not a detail is overlooked- simply spectacular!

We have been here many times and enjoyed it, but this time was far below our expectations from the service end of things. We arrived early for our 5:30 reservation and it was very busy this time so we were seated 10 minutes after our reservation window began. As if that weren't frustrating enough, the waiter came up to us multiple times to tell us that our reservation window was ending at 7:20. They tell you that you get a 2 hour reservation period, but in fact short changed us 20 minutes due to both seating us late and by saying that our reservation window was ending 10 minutes earlier than our actual reservation time. We were also not given the hand towels at the beginning of the reservation and when we asked about it were told that they don't usually give them to two-tops which is not true as this is the first time out of many that we never received them. We also noticed that some of their drinkware has been switched to standard glasses which is also disappointing.

It is not our policy to enforce a time limit or shorten guests' visit when seated late, and we will address this with your server. Our glassware for the colorful "homage cocktail" menu has remained unchanged save the Forbidden Grog (the original mugs have sadly been lost at sea). This whole experience in itself was amazing and fun. The drinks were so good but on the pricier side. They didn’t have much food but what we got was enough. It is confusing because if you don’t know or didn’t do a lap around the building you wouldn’t know it’s in the back.

Firstly, and most importantly, the food was amazing, service too. I am going to return. However, what wasn't amazing unfortunately was the atmosphere. It was very loud, the two person table my wife and I were sitting at was against the wall and right at the door to the stairs of The Nest. Needless to say, that table isn't their best. However, it was very cold and the door repeatedly opening and closing behind me kept my chair and myself pretty cold. Add all this together and I think you'll find the review justified, but that Tiki's food rocks. But as a Valentines dinner it was a 2 out of 5.
