Yohei Sushi KAHALA is the second restaurant of Yohei Sushi Restaurant, opened in 1990 by Kazuto Obara, the founder and Sushi chef. Enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine in a modern setting, our Omakase courses and seasonal à la carte dishes feature fresh ingredients sourced from Hawaii and directly from Japan.
We offer pairing with sake and wine for a complete experience.
Indulge in a unique Omakase course, beginning with our essential "Ichiban dashi" (golden first dashi) and experience our original dishes inspired by Hawaiian culinary culture.

Even at the Holiday special rate of $100 Omakase value was just not there given portion sizes and quality of fish. Mitch’s Sushi sets the 5 star bar. The service was very polite and friendly but on the slow side with long gaps between some courses. They also were unable to accommodate food allergies (they said that they require advance notice but also said that they don’t ask for that info when reservations are booked online so that’s a process issue they need to address). Given all of the amazing options for sushi on the island we won’t be coming back to Yohei. If you’re really looking for amazing sushi Omakase, try Sushi Sho in Waikiki (pricey but worth it!)

店内は綺麗で清潔感があり、店員さんのサービスがとても良く好感が持てた。ご飯も全て美味しかったので、次回はカウンターで食べたい。行きつけのお店にしたい。

The food was authentic, beautifully presented and delicious! The service was outstanding and Yuki-San made our dining experience great! We will come back for sure and will ask for Yuki-San again!

The food and service were good but the food came out very fast and in no particular order; it was not properly coursed for us. Half the food came out before our bottle of wine was opened for us (but the wine list was very good!). The hot dish came out before several cold ones and we had to eat it before we were ready to avoid it getting cold. Otherwise a good experience but needs to finesse the serving for such a nice restaurant/meal.

We finally had the opportunity to try Yohei Kahala. It’s a beautiful restaurant. When you first walk in, you get the sense that you’ve entered a special place. If you are not omakase, like us, you’re escorted to the a la carte seating area. Wood accents and comfortable seating make it a nice setting. The staff are warm and welcoming. We were immediately provided menus and drink orders were taken and delivered promptly. There were many choices from appetizers to sushi to main courses and dessert. The items we chose were familiar: edamame with truffle, Japanese style prosciutto potato salad, otoro nigiri, ahi roll with truffle, black cod, and wagyu. Everything we ordered, we enjoyed. The portions were small and, unfortunately, it’s difficult for me to say there was good value based on pricing. The two pieces of otoro, for the price, were very small as compared to other restaurants we’ve frequented. The wagyu, although very tasty, was about 3-4 ounces. Also, small portion for the cost but it was delicious. This restaurant is a nice place to take someone for a special occasion. If you’re looking for a place to take a first date, celebrate an anniversary, or enjoy a special moment, Yohei Kahala is a good choice.

Thank you very much for your comments. As you mentioned, our sushi portions may be slightly smaller compared to other restaurants. However, as you visited us to enjoy our a la carte menu, we intentionally keep portions smaller so that you can sample a variety of dishes. Next time, we hope you’ll consider celebrating a special occasion at our sushi counter with the Omakase course.
