Located high up on Saddleworth Moor above Manchester, Rochdale and Oldham, The Rams Head Inn at Denshaw enjoys panoramic views out over the surrounding countryside. It’s just five minutes from Jn 22 of the M62 and the inn is a real treasure, more than 450 years old and packed with memorabilia as well as stoves & log fires in every room. This multi-award-winning venue was one of the original gastropubs and specializes in farm-assured steaks, burgers, seasonal game and fresh fish and seafood dishes complemented with excellent fresh ale & wine.

T-bone steak was fab at half price as cooked well and massive, the duck and noodles were lovely and the partridge starters were good, The Sunday lunch however was not as good as I’ve had at other places; the roast potatoes were not hot and crisp (seemed warmed up), the broccoli was very over cooked and mushy (couldn’t eat it) the beef and Yorkshire pudding were nice. I also had the ‘very cheesy cauliflower cheese’ which was cooked correctly but it was not very cheesy and the sauce was too runny and watery; I think there was too much water from the cauliflower in it and a much stronger mature cheese needs to be used.

Driven past this place many times - thinking it to be a simple pub and farm shop - how wrong was I? The service, attention to detail and the quality of food all surpassed expectation. Everything excellent and is now likely to be a regular place to eat. Could not fault anything, especially food quality! Well done to all the staff, the chefs, the owners - terrific!!

Superb Sunday lunch, all cooked perfectly using good quality ingredients and totally fresh. The main menu seemed to have some interesting dishes but we stuck to the Sunday roast menu being a Sunday we visited. Staff very friendly and good fun, service with a😃
